Nestled in Manistee National Forest is a family farm. Trailheads lead to hundreds of miles of public two-track, and the woods roll between oak/maple/beech and aspen/birch. On the farm is a 20 acre lake with a floating island, tent sites, and healthy ecosystems with plenty of wildlife. Our farm pastures pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry, investing in our dirt and our neighbors. We are provision family farms because we provide for our animals even as we are provided for. Drop on in at the house and we may have time for a little tour.In the woods is a small composting toilet, but you're welcome to fertilize our pastures anytime. There's also a shower available in the house. The best time to visit Michigan forests is in October when the leaves turn color and the nights are cool. The mosquitoes are done for the winter and the air is brisk.

Lynx Run Wilderness Retreat

8 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents100 acres · Stanwood, MI
My property (Lynx Run) has an amazing geological and historical background. During the last ice age, glacial waters carved out the ravine in which the Betts Creek flows.  Sometimes, the creek drops over 60 feet below the surrounding terrain as it meanders back and forth in oxbows as it flows toward the Muskegon River.  It was once the hunting, foraging and camping grounds of the Potawatami Indians.  In the late 1800's it was at the center of the Michigan Timber Industry.  Running along the edge of my property is the old railroad bed where timber was once hauled away.  Only two miles from my home, the logs were sent down the side of the hill and into the Muskegon River on log chutes and then floated to where the Muskegon empties into Lake Michigan.  Piles of field stones indicate that after the timber industry moved on, farmers moved in and attempted to tame the land.  But, fortunately for me, the land was abandoned by the farmers and has returned to a much more natural and pristine state.  My land is now a part of the Manistee National Forest and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful land (both public and private).  I am the only person who lives back here in this part of the forest, so seclusion and privacy are wonderful and the wildlife and beauty is abundant.

Harvest Village - Farmstay

6 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents12 acres · Le Roy, MI
Your Hosts - Dan and Arlene Cool: “We served as missionaries in South America for over 20 years. Our first assignment was in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, primarily at a school for missionary children, teaching Bible classes (Dan) and helping to start up and run a hot lunch program (Arlene). After this we ministered in Paraguay for 10 years. Our final years of missionary service were in Chile where we founded a missionary training school to train Chilean missionaries. Latin American students that we helped train are now serving around the world bringing hope and the Gospel to needy people. Harvest Village helps to support the ministries of our former students. We are excited to enter this new stage of our lives and to share our family’s centennial farm with people interested in healthier living and farm vacationing.”Your stay at Harvest Village helps bring hope to the hopeless; We set aside $1 /per guest, per night, to help our former students who are serving as missionaries in some of the neediest places around the world.

The SOL Homestead

1 site · RV, Tent80 acres · Kingsley, MI
The SOL Homestead is a small but growing homestead with a focus on community. We raise chickens, ducks and pigs on pasture with aspirations to expand into cattle and sheep in the near future. The property is rolling acres with hardwood, pine, brush and open land with several miles of mowed trails. The terrain makes is very private and secluded, not a building or road (other than the driveway) is visible from the campsite. Wildlife abounds with regular sitings of deer, turkey, bald eagles, redtail hawks, grouse, pheasant, songbirds, and the list keeps going. The stars explode overhead when the sun drops behind the hills. The farm is over the hill and through the woods, you might occasionally hear a rooster crow, but otherwise you won't even know we are there. Located a short 20-25 minutes south of Traverse City, all the area attractions including Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manistee River, wineries, fishing, boating and countless other attractions. The Kingsley Farm Market on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm is a fun local even featuring great local farmers. We are currently offering one basic/rustic campsite, on a large flat(ish) site with picnic table and fire ring. There will be a Porta John for a toilet and no access to water or electric at this time. There is plenty of room for any type of camper or several tents. If there is enough interest, we plan to add several more campsites and perhaps a glamping site, water, electric, and an outdoor shower in the future. Included with each stay is a rack of seasoned firewood and one dozen farm fresh eggs. Other farm products may be available upon request, you never know what might be ready in the garden!
