Twenty years of growing this farm... Not what grows here but the farm itself! Stone and brick pulled from the ground till we found the beautiful earth beneath and built an incredible community around it. Or rather, it grew itself from the energy that surrounds it. It's a special spot where you may happen upon a fire in the sugar shack while we boil city collected sap into maple syrup or have an open jam night with world class jazz musicians. Enjoy the morning serenade of our rooster! Really, just come and be here. Though we think we're pretty cool, a few things to note that you may not think are so cool: There is a train that runs directly behind the farm. Light sleepers, may want to bring ear plugs. We try to accommodate parking your car on site but it's weather and situation conditional. Assume the possibility that you may need to park on the street.
Bring your tent to The Vaudeville! (RVs, campers, trailers, vans please see the ** at the bottom). Our urban farm is smack in the middle of Chicago only a 10 minute bike or train ride from Downtown, Lake Michigan, The Mag Mile and all Chicago has to offer! Bike the Lake Shore Trail, walk the 606, kayak the Chicago River, catch a blues show or Hawks game or just relax with the goats and chickens in the 9,000 square foot farm that we absolutely love to share with fellow campers!
** We have stopped hosting RVs, campers/vans, pull behinds and larger vehicles because we are finding it difficult to get them in the entrance gate but if you feel amazingly capable with your backing in skills in your rig and you're super patient, laid back and extra cool, let us know and we may be able to make it work!! :)

I become owner of this property in 2017. The cabins were built in the late 90's financed by the previous owner. The property was vacant for decades prior to that. In the 1950's, the property was a drive-in motel called the 'Harbert Motel'. We have an arial photo from this time period which showed a number of small bungalows for guests, each with its own carport. I love all the stories I hear from locals who have been around long enough to remember how things 'used to be'.
Southwest Michigan has an interesting history and has been a 'destination' from city dwellers for close to 100 years. Even Al Capone and his goon's frequented the area as they moved illegal good during the days of prohibition.

Nicky's urban farm was truly an oasis and refuge in the big city. After spending the day in Chicago, to come just 6 miles away and have grass, trees, goats, and chickens, potential for a fire in a fire pit, and calm, was priceless. Nicky and her partner are super friendly and helpful. The train does come behind her property, but they are quieter and fewer at night and did not disturb us. A wonderful stay!

Great little hidden gem just outside downtown! The space is gated, peaceful, and perfect for posting up , my small tent fit like a dream. Nicole was super kind and accommodating, and the Green Line’s only a 5 minute walk (if that). Oh, and there are goats. Actual, adorable goats. Baaah. 10/10 would camp again.

We had such a wonderful three-night stay! The hosts were absolutely exceptional—so welcoming and kind that by the time we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends. They went above and beyond, even providing toys and activities for our 15-month-old, which made the trip extra special for her. The amenities were fantastic, from the well-equipped outdoor kitchen to their thoughtful help with a few things we had forgotten to pack. The campsite itself was private and beautifully maintained, with peaceful trails to walk and explore right from our spot. Our toddler loved playing with the fun animals on the property and had the best time, and honestly, so did we. This was such a memorable trip, and we’re so grateful to have found such amazing hosts!

Such an incredible spot! The owners used their tractor to haul my stuff over to the entrance of my campsite! Very grateful for how friendly and flexible they were! They had a fire going for me when I arrived so I wouldn’t have to set it up in the dark. Loved the location and setup!

This is the first time that be used hip camp and I couldn’t be more happy with the location and hospitality that I received when I met Anne. She was such a gracious host and so willing to make our stay a comfortable and memorable experience. Anne started off by giving us a tour of grounds and introduced us to her wonderful dogs and friendly free roaming chickens….right then the ambiance was set for a relaxing stay. Although we didn’t use the outdoor kitchen it was such a lovely amenity and I am very much looking forward to using it on our next visit.

What an incredible property and host! The site was well maintained and secluded from the other sites. There is a “common area” with the kitchen, table and chairs, and the shower close by. Everything you need for cooking up a meal is provide. The outdoor shower is to die for! The free range animals were so cool and my favorite part of this experience. There is a cute coffee shop and bookstore that is 10 minutes away in Buchanan, MI. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was that our car was not parked near our campsite. Expect to park at the front of the property and then Anne or Jonathan will trailer your camping gear and bags back to your site for you. This wasn’t a big deal at all for us, but if you are expecting your car to be next to your site to air up a mattress or something, it may just throw off your plans. I would 100% book with Anne again. Also she was so sweet to talk to and gave us fresh eggs from her chickens!

We highly enjoyed our stay here! The hosts were so welcoming, kind, and accommodating going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Besides for noise from other campers, it was very private. The campsite was a beautiful wooded area. This was in close enough proximity to New Buffalo we were able to go out and about during day and spend the night here. Would definitely recommend.

Campsite was as described and had lots of privacy out in the woods. Anne hauled our gear out to the site with her mower trailer which was really helpful! While site 1 is a ways from the outhouse, let me tell you, that is the cleanest nicest smelling porta potty I’ve ever encountered! We forgot bug spray but thankfully Anne had some to share. :) Enjoyed dinner at Mccollum’s (those Brussels sprouts are fire!) in nearby Buchanan. Would recommend Gypsy Camp for sure.

I took my two kiddos to Chicago in the midst of a long camping road trip. I was a little nervous because I’m not that great at camping and was solo with kids- but man this was the perfect spot. We did have to park on the street but there was plenty right in front of the farm, so that was easy and convenient. It was also super easy to navigate getting to the train to get downtown. Nicky was simply awesome offering drinks and snacks and helping us out by closing up our tent when it rained and we were out at museums. She was also just a super cool person. We felt so welcomed and the kids absolutely loved the animals and it was all around a great place to stay.

We loved tent camping on Anne’s land! She was a great host and her property was beautiful. The site is a little ways from where you park and Anne was kind enough to transport all of our things from our car back to the site on her little trailer. We will definitely visit again!
