Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts. The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932. The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass. My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live. Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

Situated a little over 4 miles off of Missouri Hwy 185 in the forest are 4 back-in Rv sites all with 50/30/20 Amp electric configured in a circle around a community camp fire. Nearby to State Parks and a bit of a drive to Mark Twain National Forest. This is a self service site. Bring your own water and an empty lavatory tank. Twin Eagle Lake Campground is located 14 miles away on Hwy 185 and provides a water faucet and dump station for longer stays at an additional expense. The property has a 4 foot chicken wire fence around it with barb wire on the top and a double gate at the entrance. All 4 sites can be rented together for group camping or special events if available. The gravel road can be rough and should keep your significant other away. Drive slowly in a 4x4 or Rear wheel drive vehicle and you should have no problems. The road leading to this property is not meant for front wheel drive vehicles. The gate has a combo lock on it. You will get the combo after booking your site. This piece of land just finished construction so it may be Summer of 2025 before I can get the grass to grow. The gate can be left open while a campsite is occupied if all campers agree, but please close the gate and lock it if all sites are empty when you check out. Darrell and Jeanna were excellent hosts; they were friendly and helpful while also being mindful of the importance of the solitude needed to thoroughly enjoy their beautiful property. We will definitely go back for another visit (or more). This visit was towards the end of November, so the shower and privy were welcome comforts in the brisk weather, though also invigorating. Fireside relaxation was the primary activity as we watched an impressive variety of birds by the pond. With the lack of light pollution, the stargazing opportunities were a treat. We hope to be back for the wine harvest next year!

My second time visiting this camp site. I’m a novice at camping. Each time that I visited, I was impressed: friendly staff, helpful fellow campers, and aesthetically pleasing environment, e.g, lakefront view, farm animals, swimming pool, hot tubs available in select rentals and renovated bath houses. Very safe setting for solo campers, couples and families.

Such a great spot for a getaway! The campground was peaceful, well-kept, and had everything we could’ve needed for a perfect tent camping weekend. The lake views were absolutely stunning—especially with all the fall colors reflecting on the water. The bathhouse felt luxurious for camping! We loved every minute of our stay and can’t wait to come back next time to stay in one of the cabins!

We absolutely loved our stay here! The campground was beautiful—tucked right by a gorgeous lake surrounded by stunning fall colors. It felt like an adult summer camp in the best way possible! Everything we needed was right on site, from fire pits to picnic areas. The bath and shower house was impressively clean, warm, and one of the nicest we’ve seen at a campground. You can tell the owners put a lot of care into maintaining the place. We had such a peaceful, cozy stay and can’t wait to come back again next season!

The farm and staff are absolutely fantastic! We had an issue with charges, which they resolved with some investment of time on their part. They all I’ve and beyond in service. Helping us find our site in the dark, making sure we had enough supplies and even throwing a pair of jeans in the dryer for our teenager 😁 Truly kind people!

Near Site 2. Labarque Creek is one of the cleanest creeks in Missouri, with 50 species of fish. Great place to put in or take out canoes, swim, picnic, and camp. Great picnic site or take-out ramp for a day trip of floaters. Up near the bridge is Site 1.

Such a beautiful place! Safe and secure! I enjoyed being welcomed by the sweetest dog, she lead me right where to set up for the night. Waking up on a beautiful piece of land with sheep, chickens, fluffy sweet doggo, it was such a fun and much needed experience. 10/10 highly recommend!!

I’ve stayed at this site twice now and will continue to return. This is a great place to visit in the fall, the trees look beautiful. The cleanliness of the bathrooms is a great feature. The trails are also nice but the red trail needs to be marked better, it’s easy to get lost in that area. Overall a fun time. My one complaint - people need to STOP LITTERING!!! The amount of litter on the red trail is in my opinion unacceptable. If you are visiting/enjoying nature..why are you littering!?? Be better people and stop littering

Let me say!!! Daniel was an amazing host! We showed up hours after check-in, and he was still there to greet us with a smile. He was super accommodating and made our stay easy and enjoyable. The pizza on-site is so good — highly recommend grabbing one. Our tent site had electric and water hookups and enough space for a few tents if you plan it right. Even though it rained and we had to leave early (our own lack of prep!), we loved how private and quiet it was. Our dog had a blast running around, too. The bathrooms and showers were surprisingly nice — not an afterthought like some campgrounds. My only suggestion would be adding a small grill grate over the fire pit for cooking hot dogs or brats. We’ll definitely be back!

1 night at Hawks Bluff Farm Campground

This was the most beautiful camp site I have stayed at. I've been an avid user of Hipcamp for a few years and frequented many camp sites but this one surpasses all others. First, the hospitality of the owners, they are super responsive and the kitchen area has everything needed to make it comfortable stay. Our tent site was private and quiet and very beautiful to observe the meteor shower. It's set on the side of a large hill where there is a scenic view and grounds full of crystals that can be collected. It felt safe and we did not observe any wild animals other than the farm animals they have onsite. The host was welcoming and knowledgeable of the land and we will be returning with our whole family next time.
