Orange River Getaway With Kayaks

2 sites · RVs5 acres · Fort Myers, FL
Welcome to our 5 acre property tucked away in Buckingham Rural Community. You will have direct river access! My family fell in love with this property when we rescued it from disrepair, it was once known as "Harmony Gardens" and we invite you to join us bringing back the glory. Our property is home to all kinds of wildlife, we have cardinals, bluejays, barred owls, herons, swallow-tailed kites, warblers, huge pileated woodpeckers, and if you wander to the water you may see an alligator or manatee depending on the season. Orange River is the river that passes through the highly rated Manatee Park, we have kayaks and paddleboards available for your pleasure at an additional cost. We have typical comfort restaurants such as Cracker Barrel and Waffle house nearby but I would suggest local flavors of Buckingham Farms and Rum Bucket Grill. I-75 is about 10 minutes away so although we are tucked away, most of FL isnt too far for a day's trip.

Scenic Waterway

7 sites · RVs, Tents1 acre · North Port, FL
Spacious park-like waterfront setting of back yard, considered by most to be a safe area. Trash and recycle bins, bench swing, outside seating and tables. Currently waterway is coated with water lettuce plants, not navigable. Peak season is January and February when this area is extremely competitive to find camping. I don't consider my hosting service a business, but rather a cost shared meeting place. The city/county won't allow monthly; therefore is 30 days max, plus this is intended to be a meeting spot to assist travelers and meet new people, not for long term housing. Dog restrictions (see rules) and no smoking. Orderly and clean property: You and your RV / vehicle must be fairly presentable. No smoking on property. Your RV / vehicle must be in good condition and not in disarray; old vehicles OK if no visible duck tape, etc. Please note HipCamp does not allow me to see phone numbers, so if you type it in a message, I will not be able to call you. You should be able to see which sites and days are available as well as make a reservation on this website, therefore no need to ask me in a message if any site / days are available. Host is 55, single, retired from a large variety of jobs to include two years in Army "intel" and has an interest in most everything. Diet is strictly healthy which mainly omits sugar and corn syrup. Have lived in a campervan six years full time from 2016 to 2021; traveled most of the U.S. to include Alaska but not Hawaii. Have visited popular Canadian areas. Have a 2018 Ford Transit customized campervan. Born in Ohio, grew up in Texas / Arkansas. Bought this Florida home in early 2021 that is energy efficient and withstands strong storms well, but not storm proof. Worked diligently for three years to upgrade and improve the property.

Camping near Sanibel guide

Overview

Just off Cape Coral in Florida’s Gulf Coast is Sanibel Island, a gorgeous barrier island with white sugar sand and calm emerald waters. Every morning, shells from over 400 species wash up on these shores, earning Sanibel Island the “Seashell Capital of the World” nickname. There are many ways to enjoy Sanibel Island and Captiva, its neighbor island to the north. Kayaking, fishing, bird watching, hiking, biking, and shelling are all classic activities here. Visitors may spot manatee, dolphins, sea turtles, and tropical fish in Sanibel Island’s crystal clear waters, and the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico here never get old.

Where to go

Sanibel Island Surrounds

There are multiple public beaches to explore on Sanibel and Captiva islands, including Tarpon Bay Beach, Bowman’s Beach, and the Alison Hagerup Beach Park. Bike and kayak rentals are available on-island. Although some RV camping is available in Sanibel Island, RVers will find a wider selection of RV parks with full hookups and wifi nearby in Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Both areas make great basecamps to explore the area.

JN “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge

The JN “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is an extraordinary park on Sanibel Island that preserves one of the largest intact mangrove systems in the US. There are four miles of walking and biking trails, canoe and kayak launches, and over 240 species of birds living here.

Cayo Costa State Park

Cayo Costa is an island north of Captiva that is only accessible by private boat or ferry from Bokeelia. Its 9 miles of unspoiled beaches and sand dunes are accessible via Cayo Costa State Park. Here, beachside tent camping and simple cabins with picnic tables keep you close to ocean breezes, mangroves, and desolate shores.

Other Nearby Beaches

For additional beach options in the area, we recommend heading south to Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Springs. This area has multiple beach parks and access to paddling adventures on Estero Bay.

When to go

Sanibel Island’s tropical climate makes for good fall, winter, and spring camping. The summers are hotter, more humid, and have more frequent rain, but summer campers can still have a good time with solid rain cover and a setup with a fan or AC. Because of its position on the Gulf Coast, Sanibel Island is exposed to Atlantic hurricanes in the summer and fall. Monitor hurricane forecasts during these seasons before and in the course of your trip, and be prepared to change plans if bad weather is headed your way.
