Welcome to Smokey Acres! This property has been in my family for decades. My Husband and I were married under the oaks and have had our share of campfires out there. Down a hidden gravel drive with wetlands on either side you will find a completely fenced in field surrounded by pine, oak, and swamp maple trees. There are two ponds located on the property both stocked with bass, bluegill, and sunfish. The front pond is home to many natural Florida wildlife and is a great location to bird watch. Located a few miles from Brooksville and the Suncoast Parkway, this quiet and peaceful setting is just 5 minutes from the parking area and trailhead for the Suncoast Trail and 10 miles from the famous Weeki Wachee Springs, where you can spend the day at the local park or float down the river with the manatees. Withlacoochee State Park and other natural preserves with trail access and kayaking are only a short distance away, and Dames Cave, Homosassa Springs, and Chasawiska Springs are all within a ~20-minute drive as well. Spending a day at the beach is easy with plenty of options along the Nature Coast. We’re also less than an hour from Tampa and Clearwater and two hours from Orlando. A perfect weekend get-away for anyone looking to “unplug,” Smokey Acres is also a great stop for those passing through the area. We are a close distance to many racing, livestock, boating and fishing events. We have no problem accommodating whatever you’re towing! Second time staying here. I had plans to stay at another state campsite, but three gate code was not working. Luckily, on a moment notice, Smokey Acres was available. The campsite was clean, quiet, beautiful. Bathroom facilities were decent. Site was level. Slight noise from traffic. No complaints. Its an easy weekend get away. My wife was able to set up her telescope for some night photography and I got plenty of reading time. I'm pretty sure a 3rd stay will happen in the next few months.

We enjoyed the beauty and peace and spaciousness of the sites. The bathroom/shower were a bit more of an adventure than we were expecting. Bring your own toilet paper and beware that flushing the toilet will shut off the shower! Otherwise we enjoyed this unique place!

Whether it’s camping in my rv or a tent, I have fallen in-love with Smokey Acres! The driveway is very rough on the way in. A beautiful spot once you got back in where the sites were. We use a 38' travel trailer and was able to get in and out. The electric service on our site was weak but we managed. Overall a good experience.

We had a wonderful time visiting Smokey Acres. Our visit was cut short by a family emergency back home, (nothing bad), my sister had a baby but it did cause us to leave earlier than expected. I’ve already booked another visit and plan on another booking before the year is over. This campground offers plenty of space per site and a picturesque setting. Being a Florida camping enthusiast, I can say Smokey Acres is the best I’ve found in this area of Florida. Safe, spacious, and plenty of amenities! I’m looking forward to many more visits! We rented RV site 2 for tent camping and it was amazing! The site was spacious and spread apart from the other guests. The owner stopped by and was gracious enough to loan us an electrical adapter so we could get power and stopped by everyday for general maintenance and to check on our stay! It was an amazing holiday weekend and hated to see it end! There is toilet and shower (outdoor) and it was much appreciated even if a little rustic!! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Where to go

Honeymoon Island

Here’s a must-see for honeymooners—or any camper with a yen for hiking, birdwatching, swimming, and exploring. Sure, your Dunedin campsite may already feel like paradise, but Honeymoon Island State Park takes Florida’s beauty a step further. Scan the sky for eagles and osprey and the shore for seashells. You’ll start your Dunedin camping trip with more than just a glimpse of its water.

Caladesi Island

Once you’ve visited Honeymoon Island, take the ferry to Caladesi Island State Park. Only reachable by boat, the park rewards all campers who pay it a visit, so come prepared for a full day of fun in the sun. Aspiring mermaids can explore the pristine waters of paradise by kayak or canoe, while leisure-seekers can soak up island vibes directly from the shore.

All around the lakes

Freshwater lakes surface all over Dunedin, from the smaller lakes in and around the city, to the larger Lake Tarpon on the periphery. Settle into a lakefront RV campsite, and sip your morning coffee with a stunning view. Come sunset, crack open a beer and grab your fishing rod. If you catch a big enough bass, why not make your dinner—straight from your campsite with a grill?

When to go

So much of Dunedin’s charm is in its location, so plan your camping trip to maximize your time in the water. Florida’s heat rarely falters, though you’ll want to keep an eye on hurricane season, which runs from late June through November. While you can certainly camp year-round, swimmers, boaters, and snorkelers should plan accordingly. If you do camp during the rainier months, an RV campsite or log cabin with wifi will better cover your bases.
