Sterling camping spots give you a taste of Eastern Colorado’s grasslands.
While Colorado is well known for the majesty of the Rocky Mountains, there’s a magic to be found in the flatlands, as well, where expansive grasslands stretch into panoramic sunsets. Rocky cliffs and jagged buttes break up the openness. The town of Sterling is located near the tri-state intersection of Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming, providing a basecamp for exploring the Pawnee National Grassland and beyond. Nearly 200,000 acres of open prairies paint a picture of the lands that welcomed early frontiers. Camp in the park’s campground or dispersed camping areas. Book a private RV or tent campsite in the surrounding region, where you can stay on rustic ranches with open views or in cozy spots under cottonwoods. Or, look for a cabin or glamping getaway. Water-lovers might enjoy a stay at or a visit to North Sterling State Park, which offers boating and hiking, as well as a public campground.
