Redtail Retreat - The Studio

1 site · Lodging10 acres · South Fork, CO
Imagine waking up and looking out over snow-capped peaks and breathing in fresh, clean mountain air - RedTail Retreat is waiting for you...this Unique Mountain Rental is 100% off grid but has the comforts of a modern home. After enjoying a cup of morning coffee, your daily options are nearly limitless! It's not uncommon to see wildlife just out your window, or on a stroll through the property. We regularly see chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, mule deer, elk, moose, mountain lion (rare and usually at night), turkeys, bear, coyotes (they shy away due to our dogs) and LOTS of birds. Typically the only sound you're going to hear is the soundtrack of nature - it's so peaceful... Depending on the time of year, you can do any of the following: DURING FALL/WINTER/SPRING Snow is possible at any time! A HIGH CLEARANCE 4 X 4 IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO ACCESS THE PROPERTY SAFELY. A CAR WILL NOT MAKE IT AND WILL GET DAMAGED. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DRIVE A CAR TO THIS LOCATION, AND HAVE ISSUES, we will be unable to assist you. PLEASE ASK PRIOR TO BOOKING. We will not be able to offer credits or refunds for failing to drive the proper vehicle. We want you to get here safely and happily! Fall/Winter - Snowshoeing, Snowmobiling, Cross-Country Skiing, Downhill Skiing (Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain are all approximately one hour drive), hunting (surrounded by hundreds of acres of National Forest land), hiking (St. Mary's Glacier is only 10 minutes up the road), shopping and gambling (Idaho Springs is 10-15 mins, Georgetown is 20-25 mins, Blackhawk and Central City are about 30 mins, Denver 45 mins) Ice Climbing Spring/Summer - Whitewater Rafting or Fishing (ask about guide services), Hiking, Mountain Biking, Road Biking, Shopping and Gambling (Idaho Springs is 10-15 mins, Georgetown is 20-25 mins, Blackhawk and Central City are about 30 mins, Denver 45 mins), Sightseeing (plenty of scenic drives close by) 4x4 off-roading (hundreds of miles of Forest Service trails) Red Tail Retreat is perched high atop Redtail Ridge and overlooks Mt Evans and the entire Continental Divide. The views are truly breathtaking. Since we are on our own little "island", there are weather patterns here that are as surprising as they are unpredictable. The living space is an attached studio loft or "mother-in-law" suite complete with a king size bed and a separate memory foam mattress in the loft area. (NO CHILDREN allowed in loft under any circumstances) The space also includes a kitchenette complete with a microwave, outdoor propane grill, coffee maker, toaster and bar sink/mini fridge. Pets are allowed as long as they are well-behaved. There is a full private bathroom attached to the space as well. The caretaker/manager lives in the main home but have their own separate entrance and parking areas. Should you have any issues during your stay, they are available 24/7 for assistance. If you choose to bring your pup/s, there is a 1/4 acre fenced-in yard you and your furry family member are welcome to use, providing they are well-behaved. You'll have access to our 5 acres of property (seasonal stream below) as well as thousands of acres of National Forest and hundreds of miles of Forest Service Roads. Red Tail Retreat is 100% off-grid - we do not have electrical power like standard homes!! This doesn't mean we don't have electric at all, it just means that we rely on solar power to keep our battery bank charged (educational lessons available if you want to learn more about off-grid life and/or solar) What this means is that we live a conservative lifestyle in terms of resource use. The home operates similar to a normal home but with a few caveats. 1. We are very energy conscious - high draw appliances such as hairdryers and curling irons won't be able to be used unless it's during the day and sunny 2. We are very water conscious. We are on a well and have plenty of clean mountain spring water, but part of living off-grid is that our water is stored in a 150 gallon sterile tank. We manually fill the tank as needed - water pressure and temps are just like a normal home. You won't be responsible for filling the water, but we ask that guests just be conservative with usage. 3. We are 100% solar dependent and have our power through a bank of batteries. If there isn't sun or it's very cloudy, we may have to run the generator during the day but generally limit the generator use to the evening for 2-3 hours max - this is rare and only necessary if we go multiple days without sun Thank you in advance for understanding! We can't wait to share our piece of heaven with you! If you’re still here and you’re still interested, this will be one of the most amazing and unique escapes, vacations, or getaways that you’ve ever had! We offer @UniqueMountainRentals to provide you the best off-the-beaten-path experience as possible!

Luxury cabins near Golden guide

Overview

Tucked in between Denver and the Front Range, Golden is a base camp for adventures both in the city and the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Once a hub for gold mining, hence the name, Golden now is a hub for local brew pubs and restaurants, offering a place to relax after enjoying the bounty of recreational opportunities. Clear Creek takes a wild tumble from the mountains before becoming a focal point for the town of Golden, which offers trails and parks along the rippling waterway. Public camping options in Golden include the city-run Clear Creek RV Park and Chief Hosa Campground. Just outside of town, Golden Gate Canyon State Park is nestled in the Front Range, offering 97 campsites, including RV and tent camping.

Where to go

Rocky Mountain National Park

Dreaming of a camping trip in the Rockies? Golden is just over one hour from Estes Park, a popular eastern entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and approximately two hours from Grand Lake, the primary western entrance. Inside the park, several campgrounds offer sublime views and access to adventures. While full hookup RV parks are not found directly in the national park, the gateway cities are home to private and public campgrounds offering a range of amenities.

Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests

Your best bet for finding free camping is to look for dispersed camping areas in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, which offers 1.5 million acres of open space in the Rocky Mountain wilderness, stretching north and south of I-70. Over 50 public campgrounds are available, with tent camping being more common than RV camping. Amenities like picnic tables, dump stations, and potable water are sometimes found.

Denver

Though Denver is a city, a surprising number of state park campgrounds and RV parks can be found, offering easy access to the vibrant downtown, museums, and shopping in the Mile High City. Chatfield State Park and Cherry Creek State Park are two year-round public camping options, offering a mix of full hookup, electric, and basic sites. Amenities include hiking trails, laundry facilities, and free wifi at the visitor centers.

When to go

Summer is primetime for camping, as evening temperatures stay comfortable for tent camping and daytime temperatures are perfect for outdoor adventures. Spring is cooler, with variable weather. Fall brings the changing of the aspen trees, an annual celebration in the Colorado Rockies. Winter weather is always a possibility in both fall and spring, however. Winter brings unique recreational opportunities, but freezing temperatures and heavy snows are regular occurrences campers need to be prepared to handle.
