New Sky’s bones are those of an old settler’s homestead in the San Luis Valley that dates back to the early 1900’s. Nestled up against the Rio Grande National Forest, it is a high mountain desert oasis that holds the original dance hall of the county and a whole lot of history. New Sky Ranch is a wild, wild place. We are not only off grid, but also nestled in a large natural caldera (meaning a volcano that has collapsed on itself) and are right next to national forest. This means that we can experience all 4 seasons in a single day - having extreme winds and rain in one moment, and clear summer skies the next! We invite you to not only be prepared for this, but to lean into the experience as this unique high alpine environment can be one of the most inspiring and epic places on earth. We are currently fixing up what is already on the property for an eco-experiential retreat as well as a space for like minded artists to take refuge and create magic on the land. We currently have our workshop and studio space up and running as well as the first of several livable structures completed - an 100 year old rehabbed miners cabin using Hempcrete and other natural materials, complete with a communal outdoor kitchen. We also have begun hosting our first artist/maker residents who are using the shop space and land to bring their own creations to life. Over time, we have dreams of permaculture farming, eco building workshops, community collaboration, and the ability to host gatherings – however, we are committed to taking it all one step at a time and allowing only what is meant to be to unfold. For now it is simply our home, a maker space for art and experimental eco building, a gathering spot for friends and a quiet Hipcamp spot.

Welcome to the Scott Ranch located 10 minutes east of South Fork, CO. Our ranch is easily accessible via a flat, state-maintained road, just seconds off Highway 160. Our family purchased the ranch a couple years ago. We are native Coloradoans who are interested in conservation. The Scott Ranch is a 147 acre, conserved ranch and boasts some of the most beautiful riparian grassland in the valley. We have hundreds of tall cottonwoods bordering almost a mile of private, gold medal water on the Rio Grande river. There are literally thousands of species of plants and animals on the property. Come enjoy the incredible sunset views from the firepit perched high above the large pond and be prepared for one the best stargazing experiences in the valley! Please know that we are not an RV park, nor do we want to be. We have only three sites. This is intentional because we want your experience to be focused on the beauty of the ranch. The sites are flat and relatively private. Each site is 26x80 (easy pull through) with individual access to power (50 amp, 30 amp and 110 outlet) and water. There is common area that includes a large firepit, picnic table and charcoal grill for you enjoyment. You also have immediate access to a septic system station next to the sites, at your convenience. Please know the Scott ranch is a working ranch. The lower corridor of the ranch will have livestock (cattle) grazing for several weeks out of the year. (Calving season is adorable!) For insurance reasons, guest access to the lower pastures and river corridor is only allowed through a separate reservation. If you are interested in accessing the grazing corridor, for example to fly fish our gold medal waters on the river, please inquire.

A Special Place in South Park

Your base camp for Gold Medal fishing at Spinney Mountain Reservoir, or just some relaxation and stargazing! Once a gargantuan ranch, this section of South Park has been subdivided into residential and recreational lots so more of us can enjoy the local beauty. This neck of the woods remains sparsely populated, assuring you of peace and privacy. Learn more about this land: Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings, and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.) The property has flat (but not *quite* level) areas for easy tent setup and also gently sloping and wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again. There is a fire ring, please just check if there is in a burn ban in place. There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent. If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!

New Sky’s bones are those of an old settler’s homestead in the San Luis Valley that dates back to the early 1900’s. Nestled up against the Rio Grande National Forest, it is a high mountain desert oasis that holds the original dance hall of the county and a whole lot of history. New Sky Ranch is a wild, wild place. We are not only off grid, but also nestled in a large natural caldera (meaning a volcano that has collapsed on itself) and are right next to national forest. This means that we can experience all 4 seasons in a single day - having extreme winds and rain in one moment, and clear summer skies the next! We invite you to not only be prepared for this, but to lean into the experience as this unique high alpine environment can be one of the most inspiring and epic places on earth. We are currently fixing up what is already on the property for an eco-experiential retreat as well as a space for like minded artists to take refuge and create magic on the land. We currently have our workshop and studio space up and running as well as the first of several livable structures completed - an 100 year old rehabbed miners cabin using Hempcrete and other natural materials, complete with a communal outdoor kitchen. We also have begun hosting our first artist/maker residents who are using the shop space and land to bring their own creations to life. Over time, we have dreams of permaculture farming, eco building workshops, community collaboration, and the ability to host gatherings – however, we are committed to taking it all one step at a time and allowing only what is meant to be to unfold. For now it is simply our home, a maker space for art and experimental eco building, a gathering spot for friends and a quiet Hipcamp spot.

IF there are no restrictions and fires are allowed, we have firewood bundles and/or starter packs for purchase at $10/bundle/pack. We also have two propane fire pits available for rent (see "extras"), or you are welcome to bring your own. If you have purchased wood and there are restrictions/bans, we will gladly apply your wood purchase the rental of a propane pit. Propane fire pit usage may also be restricted by current conditions or state/county restrictions! Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn. *UPON ARRIVAL at the property, please WAIT INSIDE our main gate (unless otherwise directed via prior communication with host). The host(s) will meet you there shortly after passing through the gate and direct you to your site. ----------------------- Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available. Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. To avoid disappointment, PLEASE do your own research prior to arrival)! Guests need to be self-sustaining to camp here as there are no facilities nearby (gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.)! Just a short drive east of our cabins is Salida, Colorado known as the ‘Gem of the Rockies’. New for 2023 Creekside Chalets has added 3 Creekside Camping spots all with access to the North Fork of the South Arkansas creek that flows through the property. The sites are located in an aspen grove along the creek with a picnic table provided and room to park one vehicle up to 20 feet long and space for a tent. 30 amp power is provided to each site, a porta-potty within 250 feet and water from a camp spigot. The campsites are pet friendly, $30 per pet per stay, max 2 pets.

Chez Le Mons

Come visit the place of my childhood camping adventures, where you can feel like the king of the hill! From the summit, the Sangre de Cristo mountain range is visible in breathtaking glory. The parcels available for camping stretch from the western slope to the eastern and meet on the summit. Please be mindful of boundary markers as the northern and southern thirds of the hill are owned by neighbor landowners. There is no designated parking, and the hill is steep. Viable areas include some small clearings with shallow inclines on the eastern slope and the pictured alcove on the western slope that has been carved out for drainage. However it is critical not to park there during periods of heavy rain, as the Cotopaxi area is prone to flash flooding. BEWARE OF BEARS There is a thriving black bear population in Fremont County and there is one residing near Chez Le Mons. His name is Bosco; he's friendly. -- Always practice proper bear safety protocol -- Bear mace is highly recommended, and cooking during crepuscular hours is strongly advised against. This place is a work in progress, and I hope those adventurous folks appreciate taming the rugged terrain as I have!

Welcome to the Scott Ranch located 10 minutes east of South Fork, CO. Our ranch is easily accessible via a flat, state-maintained road, just seconds off Highway 160. Our family purchased the ranch a couple years ago. We are native Coloradoans who are interested in conservation. The Scott Ranch is a 147 acre, conserved ranch and boasts some of the most beautiful riparian grassland in the valley. We have hundreds of tall cottonwoods bordering almost a mile of private, gold medal water on the Rio Grande river. There are literally thousands of species of plants and animals on the property. Come enjoy the incredible sunset views from the firepit perched high above the large pond and be prepared for one the best stargazing experiences in the valley! Please know that we are not an RV park, nor do we want to be. We have only three sites. This is intentional because we want your experience to be focused on the beauty of the ranch. The sites are flat and relatively private. Each site is 26x80 (easy pull through) with individual access to power (50 amp, 30 amp and 110 outlet) and water. There is common area that includes a large firepit, picnic table and charcoal grill for you enjoyment. You also have immediate access to a septic system station next to the sites, at your convenience. Please know the Scott ranch is a working ranch. The lower corridor of the ranch will have livestock (cattle) grazing for several weeks out of the year. (Calving season is adorable!) For insurance reasons, guest access to the lower pastures and river corridor is only allowed through a separate reservation. If you are interested in accessing the grazing corridor, for example to fly fish our gold medal waters on the river, please inquire.

A Special Place in South Park

Your base camp for Gold Medal fishing at Spinney Mountain Reservoir, or just some relaxation and stargazing! Once a gargantuan ranch, this section of South Park has been subdivided into residential and recreational lots so more of us can enjoy the local beauty. This neck of the woods remains sparsely populated, assuring you of peace and privacy. Learn more about this land: Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings, and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.) The property has flat (but not *quite* level) areas for easy tent setup and also gently sloping and wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again. There is a fire ring, please just check if there is in a burn ban in place. There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent. If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!
