Experience lakeside views and beachside boating while camping at Lake Berryessa.
About 40 miles west of Sacramento sits Lake Berryessa—the largest lake in Napa County. The lake is a popular destination for anglers, beachgoers, and boaters thanks to the year-round temperate weather. The enticing waters bring plenty of swimming, jet skiing, and kayaking as well as opportunities for beach camping. Try Putah Canyon Campground at the Putah Canyon Recreation Area, which houses campsites equipped with electric hookups, cell service, and boat-trailer parking. Other campgrounds on the southern side of the lake also offer tent and RV sites outfitted with full and partial hookups, bathrooms, firepits, and coin-op showers. Hikers may also want to venture to the eastern edge of the lake to see the Putah Creek Wildlife Area, home to 673 acres of chaparral, riparian, and woodland for hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Campers looking for beach camping on the ocean can head just two hours east to Point Reyes National Seashore or Bodega Bay.
