Whaleback Ridge Campgrounds

Welcome! We offer 3 options on our land, just 10 minutes from beautiful Calistoga, mud baths, the community pool ($8) and of course the restaurant scene.
Whaleback Ridge has 2 main sites that overlook “the Whaleback,” which is the far edge of our property accessible by trails. Sites are called the Shaded Oak and the Married Manzanitas. The Married Manzanitas site has the additional option of staying in a cozy Tent Cabin set up with a futon bed and loveseat - called the Whaleback View Cabin. Each main site is very private, and all sites share access to the "Hilltop 360 View Station" where you can find water, electricity, WiFi and access to civilization if you want it.
TWO AVAILABLE SITES:
1. Shaded Oak: small RV/trailer accessible, this is a back-in site that also has a flat spot for a small tent. The back-in is slightly challenging; we recommend you drive to the top of the driveway (the Hilltop 360 View Station), and turn around for easier maneuvering. This site has a table, chairs, garbage can with bags, dish soap and a 5 gallon water jug for a "handwashing" station (well water, not harmful but not the best drinking water). All sites have their own compost toilet - yours has the Orange "Home Dumpo" (TM) - just be sure to add leaves/mulch on top. Garbage: take down your garbage on your way out, dumping in the grey and blue bins labeled "Hipcamp" by the main mailbox.
2. Married Manzanitas: tent or open star camping only, with mainly walk-in access to the site (about 30 yards). Driving in with 4WD or high clearance vehicles is optional and at your own risk of scratches/dents. You'll have a large table, chairs, flat spot for tent with a tarp available, your own compost toilet "throne" (your site has a large red throne - be sure to add leaves or mulch on top when you've finished using it). This site has a dishwashing and handwashing station, as well as utensils, dishes, and a camp stove available in drawers under the sink. *There is a propane heated shower at this site, fed by a hose - You may need to walk to the hilltop station to turn on the hose, if you use it more than once.
Note: The Married Manzanitas sites are also the only ones that do not accommodate a trailer or RV, since they are walk-in or 4WD only with limited clearance.
SHARED: Hilltop 360 View Station: this is the place to find shared access to electricity, water, shower, propane grill, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, and lots of games! Everyone is welcome to drive or walk to the Hilltop - continue UP the driveway past your site- and at the TOP, veer left toward the "Welcome" sign and away from the main house (where we have tenants living). Park anywhere between the yellow shed and small white 'cabin' near the water tank. Keep walking past the cabin to the main hiking trail to the Whaleback Ridge.
*The Hilltop 360 View Station is behind the Yellow Shed, where you'll find the sink and shower; inside the shed you'll find everything else. *Feel free to wash/rinse anything you want to use first, as dust, etc. is likely to accumulate. *Definitely clean, dry and return anything you used to avoid a $15 cleaning fee.
*The large outdoor bathtub is available for an extra $10 per stay (add 'Extra' at booking or contact Dan if you decide to use it later).
*Dan is sometimes not "on site", but available by text or call. When I visit, I stay at the top of the hill. In emergencies or stuck cars, our tenant/host at the main house can help for a $15 emergency help fee if he's available. Dan is the main point of contact by text. If you need WIFI to send a text, you can connect at the Hilltop 360 View Station. Router is 2WIREADOE and password is 61963948.
*For hiking, you can explore most all parts of the property NORTH of the driveway/camps. You can get to "The Whaleback" most easily by walking to the "Hilltop 360 View Station" and walking left, past the white Coral Cabin, about 25 yards then taking your FIRST left trail and following the main trails which will cover the edges of our 34 acres, about 30-45 min. hike to the top of the ridge. If you reach the small pond, you've gone too far past the FIRST left trail.
*The other way to access this trail is through our "Fern Gully", which is Northeast of the Shaded Oak (past the compost toilet and then 'right,' down the wash will get you to our streambed, then right again following the stream will eventually get you to the main trail). These trails do get overgrown, and it is wilderness. -rattlesnakes, ticks, and poison oak - long pants and hiking boots required.
*We have an old dog! She is a husky-akida mix (her name is "Beautiful") and she will bark at first. She makes friends quickly; feel free to meet her and show you're friendly, then ignore her and/or play with her! But please don't feed her human food, and watch your food (!). If you bring pets, they should be fine! If yours is at all questionable with new dogs, please just introduce them slowly at first, and then they should get along famously. Throwing a toy or stick should work, or if available, give her a dog treat. We let them out in the morning and evening but try to keep them out of your space most of the time.
*Steer clear of the neighbors down the hill - the first house you see when you drive up the driveway. Please do not approach the lower house or invade their privacy.
*When you book, a google doc will be sent to you which you can download as a PDF on your phone to keep available when you lose WiFi.
*This is a beautiful, serene, and peaceful spot! We invite you to come contribute to that energy.

Each of the listings has it's own private deck or patio and then you have access to all of the common areas on the propertyWe promise you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but you are minutes from everything.Lulu’s Landing and Captain Wack’s Cove is a pirate-themed Creekside hangout, where you can enjoy a fire, except during banned season. Also a great place to capture a glimpse of the numerous critters that cruise our creek. Foxes, Deer, Squirrels, Otters, Ducks and Herons as well as numerous songbirds that feed from our bird feeder.Lulu’s Lanai is a Flamingo-themed outdoor living room and dining area with fun vintage furniture and décor.The Take- A -Liki- Tiki Shower Shack is a great place to cool off and clean up after a day on the river or exploring tidepools at the coast. There is even a puppy bath station behind it for your furry friends!The Wack Shack is our outdoor bar and grill, full of fun, colorful lights and signs. There’s plenty of equipment to cook there: appliances, a BBQ, sink, fridge and walk-up bar.We also have several apple trees, a pear tree, and tons of blackberries when in season to share with our guest. Our Veggie Garden will be available next season to enjoy also. We are constantly improving our property so please stay in the finished designated guest areas only until we open up the coming attractions.There are plenty of sites and destinations within minutes from our home too! We have Tennis, Pickle Ball, and Basketball Courts around the corner. The Russian River/ Monte Rio public beach is a short walk past the Parks and Recreation Center, and they rent Kayaks and Canoes during the summer months. The Redwood Alliance camp is just a few miles up Bohemian Hwy if you dare to zip line through the redwood canopy forest or Armstrong woods in Guerneville for those that would rather keep their feet on the ground and take a hike to enjoy the majestic beauties. Duncan's Mill is a quaint town (less than 3 miles from us) on your way to Jenner by the Sea which is just about 9 miles to the west of us. You can take a gorgeous coastal drive to Bodega that is only 15 miles away. Historic Fort Ross is another beautiful 20 mile coastal drive. Bike Enthusiast love the back roads out here and the Biggest Attraction Is… Wait for it…. Wineries are everywhere! During the summer there are several Music Venues close by too. The Rio Nido Roadhouse has outdoor music on the weekends. Rockin the River is every other Thursday in Guerneville. The Monte Rio Variety Show just celebrated it 111th year to a sold-out crowd. Zac Brown, Steve Miller, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor are just a few Headliners that have been here in the past.We have a great Lightwave coffee shop across the creek that is a quick 5 minute walk. There are several restaurants along the river as well as a small grocery store, movie theater, and a Homemade Ice Cream Parlor that are all close enough to walk to or drive. Our property is .3 acres. It is on a semi rural street, private property in the midst of nature. The little cabin sits above a creek which flows and roars like a river in the winter. In the spring enjoy the beauty of the wild flowers and blossoming trees. The deer come in and out- it is difficult to maintain a vegetable garden! We are ten minutes from the Samuel P Taylor camp ground and 30 to 40 minutes from the coastal trails in the Point Reyes National sea shore. Nearby, hiking trails abound, There are trail maps in the cabin. Tomales bay is 30 minutes down the road.
Our property is home to a small grove of redwoods, one very large redwood, many fir trees and old ivy covered trees that line the creek. The fences on either side of the property crawl with wild grape vines and a large cherry tree stands next to the cabin. The bathroom is in the main house. This is a good home base for hiking, biking, resting and showering.

Overview
The isolated coastal town of Bolinas in California's Marin County has only 1,600 residents. It's about 90 minutes north of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. If you're driving into Bolinas, keep in mind that there are no road signs for it! While people here are friendly, they're notoriously protective of their secluded culture. Point Reyes National Seashore is just 10 minutes north on Olema Bolinas Road. This area's a great choice if you're into camping in the backcountry. Much of the area is only accessible by foot, bike, or horseback. You can also reach some beach camping areas by boat. Note that Point Reyes' proximity to San Francisco makes it a very popular destination. Call ahead to make reservations if possible! Head 10 minutes the other way on Olema Bolinas Road to reach broad, sandy Stinson Beach. This is a better choice if you're looking for easy access to the water. Half an hour north of Bolinas, you'll find Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Definitely stop by here if hiking is your passion. The challenging 5.8-mile Barnabe Peak trail rewards you with beautiful views of the San Geronimo Valley. You can also bed down for the night under the shade of the redwoods in the park's Camp Taylor.
