The high desert town of Bishop sits on California’s scenic Highway 395.
In eastern California, the small community of Bishop sits between Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles at the junction of U.S. highways 6 and 395. Once used as a filming location for old western movies, it’s an easy stop on an RV road trip of the eastern Sierra Nevada, providing access to several outdoor activities. Go hiking or biking on the trails of Inyo National Forest, admire views of Mount Whitney, exploring the rock-climbing scene, or head to one of many Alpine lakes around Mammoth Lakes for boating, fishing, paddling, and swimming. Basic RV parks can be found around town, with a couple that offer full or partial hookups and amenities like playgrounds and hot showers. Campgrounds with RV sites can be found closer to the mountains and lakes but not always with hookups. This is a mostly dry area with temps nearing 100°F in the summer and falling below freezing during winter and spring nights.
