Tucked away in spectacular Modoc National Forest at the base of Timber Mountain, Hawk's Nest Tionesta is one of the best kept secrets in the West. You won’t find a better place to enjoy Northern CA cabins and RV & tent camping. Just 15 minutes from Lava Beds Nat'l Monument, we offer some of the best camping in Northern CA.

Please do not try to contact us over cell phone. We live in an area with bad cell reception. If you try to reach us by cell phone there is a chance we won’t see your message.

When you arrive you must check in at the office first. If there is no one at the office please call the office number posted on the sign.

Cranky Canard Mountain Cabin

The Cranky Canard is a cozy log cabin that sits at the base of the Warner Mountains at 5,340 ft on 20 acres and backs to the National Forest. Beautiful view of the broad valley of the Pit River where you can witness breath-taking sunsets, dark skies where the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye, and even Mt. Shasta —which is located 95 miles west as the crow flies. Aptly named in honor of the Belligerent Duck, come enjoy this high desert cabin in the wilderness!

C & A Campground

Beautiful off grid campground in the rural area of Modoc National Forest. We are located approximately 30 miles from the Oregon state line, 90 miles from Mt Shasta and there is plenty of activities here in Modoc National  Forest. This site is completely off grid with no access to water or power. The property is almost 2 acres big and less then 15 mins from the city of Alturas. Although Alturas is a very small quiet town we have a few grocery stores, gas stations, and dollar generals. Plenty of land to explore, hikes to take and sights to see! Let the adventure begin!
