La Hacienda Chuparosa

When my husband and I were dating in NY we confessed our mutual desire to get back "home" to the west. It made me fall in love with him even faster. So when we married we moved to Washington DC knowing that in time we would make it west. 5 years later, when the traffic and the politics has taken its toll, we made a trip to Tucson and fell in love with this charming property that exudes all the beauty and grace of the Sonoran Desert. We looked at each other as we walked around looking at the stunning Mtn. Views and the mesquite fence and knew we were finally "home."
I've always adored the SW Hummingbirds and wanted to name the property La Hacienda Chuparosa.  When we moved in, for the first week, every morning a hummingbird was sipping nectar from one of our plants in the front yard. We knew it was meant to be. 
So we added a couple of horses to our dream, built some stalls, and now are ready to welcome you to La Hacienda Chuparosa. We know you will find the same magic here that we do.

The property is located by Robles junction.  In the late 1800's it was part of one of the largest ranches in the Arizona territory.  The original ranch house is about 5 miles away just off ajo hwy.  For non Spanish speaking people.  Ajo is pronounced ah hoe.  It means garlic.  History is that mr. Robles was a mail carrier between Tucson and the town of ajo. He discovered water and dug a well.  He promptly quit the post office and opened a stage stop with his brother.  They then acquired millions of acres of land across the southern part of Arizona.  It is estimated that at one time the ranch was over 3 million acres. Which made it one of the largest ranches in the Arizona territory.  It was broken up and sold off in the early 1930's.Learn more about this land:The camp is about 20 miles west of Tucson.  Here we have so much it's hard to list it all! The property is 1/2 a mile off a paved road.  We are completely fenced.  Across the road are thousands of acres of Arizona trust land.  The trust land requires a $20 annual permit.   Tucson hosts the  largest  rock and mineral  show in  the  world  annually.  We  have  the  southern most ski resort in the country.  Lots to do  and  see here.

The house on the property sits on the far north east side of the property which is about 80 yards from the camping area.  

We do have trash services for customers.  Please limit it though. 

Wild Burro Desert Retreat

We are empty-nesters enjoying our retirement years on our 5 beautiful acres in Marana, AZ.

 We are conveniently located just 7.7 miles (15 minutes) east of I-10.'

*Please note:  We do not allow tent, truck, or car camping.  All guests must have a self contained, trailer, RV, or camper van with a working toilet. We have full hook ups with a 30 amp electrical service. 

 We enjoy traveling in our trailer and have recently determined that we would love to provide a convenient, beautiful and peaceful camping experience for others!

 We have beautiful mountain views and are adjacent to the Tortolita Preserve.

 The reserve offers trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

 We have cleared a portion of our land, far enough away from our home, in order for our guests to experience a taste of desert beauty and privacy.

 If you enjoy wildlife, know that it is very likely you will see cottontail rabbits, jack rabbits, javelina, and more.

You may wish to visit the Ritz Carlton - Dove Mountain which is just a short 6.3 miles up the hill. There, you can enjoy a delicious meal and/or the best of golfing.

 Dove Mountain Brewing is 2.7 miles down the hill and offers locally handcrafted beer! Enjoy the best beer and grilled food while playing darts or watching your favorite sports team on TV.

 The best thing about our property is the feeling of being secluded yet having everything else nearby.

 

There is certainly no shortage of things to do and no shortage of desert beauty here at the Wild Burro Desert Retreat!

Pineapple's Place

We have just reopened our campground January 2023.

Sleep under the trees of the mesquite bosque. Dip in our swimming hole when it's warm enough. Take a stroll down into the dry San Pedro River bed in the dry season.

 Our small homestead has dogs, cats, pigs and various small farm animals depending on the time of year. Besides our amazing bird population, we have a seasonal colony of bats on the property. Sit by the pond and watch as they whizz by to get a drink before they head out into the summer night.

The three dogs pictured will likely supervise your camp but can always be penned up if they are unwanted. 

I grew up on this property, my daughter was born here and it has been various things over the years from a small family farm to a charter school to a work trade program. Now it's our small homestead now. 

All money raised by this site is going right back into the campground, eventually a small cabin space too!

We do not live in cell service so please do not use our number as you would a mobile phone. It is a landline. The camp site is close enough to access our Wi-Fi.
