3:10 to Dragoon

Dragoon is rich in history and natural beauty. The name comes from the 3rd U.S. Calvary Dragoons who battled the Chiricahua Apaches here led by Chief Cochise during the Apache Wars. Nearby, you can visit the confederate graves and ruins of the Dragoon Springs Stage Station. About 20 minutes away is Cochise Stronghold, home and burial place of Chief Cochise and Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is about an hour away (great hiking and climbing!). Unique to this area are the amazing rock formations of pillars, balances, and stacked rocks caused by cooled volcanic granite 50 million years ago.  In addition, our area is home to hundreds of different bird species, the occasional Gila monster, coyotes, deer, and javalina.

When my husband and I were dating in NY we confessed our mutual desire to get back "home" to the west. It made me fall in love with him even faster. So when we married we moved to Washington DC knowing that in time we would make it west. 5 years later, when the traffic and the politics has taken its toll, we made a trip to Tucson and fell in love with this charming property that exudes all the beauty and grace of the Sonoran Desert. We looked at each other as we walked around looking at the stunning Mtn. Views and the mesquite fence and knew we were finally "home."
I've always adored the SW Hummingbirds and wanted to name the property La Hacienda Chuparosa.  When we moved in, for the first week, every morning a hummingbird was sipping nectar from one of our plants in the front yard. We knew it was meant to be. 
So we added a couple of horses to our dream, built some stalls, and now are ready to welcome you to La Hacienda Chuparosa. We know you will find the same magic here that we do.

The property is located by Robles junction.  In the late 1800's it was part of one of the largest ranches in the Arizona territory.  The original ranch house is about 5 miles away just off ajo hwy.  For non Spanish speaking people.  Ajo is pronounced ah hoe.  It means garlic.  History is that mr. Robles was a mail carrier between Tucson and the town of ajo. He discovered water and dug a well.  He promptly quit the post office and opened a stage stop with his brother.  They then acquired millions of acres of land across the southern part of Arizona.  It is estimated that at one time the ranch was over 3 million acres. Which made it one of the largest ranches in the Arizona territory.  It was broken up and sold off in the early 1930's.Learn more about this land:The camp is about 20 miles west of Tucson.  Here we have so much it's hard to list it all! The property is 1/2 a mile off a paved road.  We are completely fenced.  Across the road are thousands of acres of Arizona trust land.  The trust land requires a $20 annual permit.   Tucson hosts the  largest  rock and mineral  show in  the  world  annually.  We  have  the  southern most ski resort in the country.  Lots to do  and  see here.

The house on the property sits on the far north east side of the property which is about 80 yards from the camping area.  

We do have trash services for customers.  Please limit it though. 

Wild Burro Desert Retreat

We are empty-nesters enjoying our retirement years on our 5 beautiful acres in Marana, AZ.

 We are conveniently located just 7.7 miles (15 minutes) east of I-10.'

*Please note:  We do not allow tent, truck, or car camping.  All guests must have a self contained, trailer, RV, or camper van with a working toilet. We have full hook ups with a 30 amp electrical service. 

 We enjoy traveling in our trailer and have recently determined that we would love to provide a convenient, beautiful and peaceful camping experience for others!

 We have beautiful mountain views and are adjacent to the Tortolita Preserve.

 The reserve offers trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

 We have cleared a portion of our land, far enough away from our home, in order for our guests to experience a taste of desert beauty and privacy.

 If you enjoy wildlife, know that it is very likely you will see cottontail rabbits, jack rabbits, javelina, and more.

You may wish to visit the Ritz Carlton - Dove Mountain which is just a short 6.3 miles up the hill. There, you can enjoy a delicious meal and/or the best of golfing.

 Dove Mountain Brewing is 2.7 miles down the hill and offers locally handcrafted beer! Enjoy the best beer and grilled food while playing darts or watching your favorite sports team on TV.

 The best thing about our property is the feeling of being secluded yet having everything else nearby.

 

There is certainly no shortage of things to do and no shortage of desert beauty here at the Wild Burro Desert Retreat!

Get hands on if you desire with plants and animals during your stay, and endulge in star gazing at night where the milky way is visible in the sky. We provide respite from city noise and light pollution. You'll find solace for the soul within the Garden of Peden. There is a little free library for guests to enjoy and plenty of room to relax and read if one wishes. Chickens are coming soon so that guests can help themselves to the fresh eggs they provide.
