This campsite has access to a beautiful toilet/hot shower and drinking water supply in the workshop. There is also an outdoor shower in a water tank surround and an outside bath heated by a fire. Small camp kitchen with coffee machine, fridge, sink and bench also in the workshop.
Large outdoor movie screen, we generally screen family movies on Saturday night among the gum trees and strings of lighting. Please enquire if you are interested.
Campfires and bonfires permitted in winter. No fire from October to May.
While you're here check out the Greenough walk and cycle track that follows the river. It's only 3km to the beach, and you can walk or take your bike there (bike hire is available in town). We have canoes.
Greenough Settlement/café and Wild Life Park close by.
Pets welcome on a lead. Off lead welcome after we had met and chatted. Dogs are a danger to all horses, guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens. Off lead without consultation will not be tolerated.

The campsite is located on 40 acres, just 10 minutes north of Dongara, 35 minutes south of Geraldton and a 6-minute drive to Seven Mile Beach.
Seven Mile Beach is known for it's beautiful turquoise water and white sandy beaches. You can walk for miles and dogs can be off leash. You can also snorkel over the reef area close to shore, fish off the beach, kayak or just swim.
The campsite is secure and easy to access. You can set up anywhere in the vicinity of the lean-to shed in the neatly mowed area. The area is relatively flat with scattered limestone cap rock. It is easy to manouvre around, even for large vans including 5th wheelers. The camping area is approximately one acre, surrounded by trees.
You’re welcome to walk around the bottom of the property, staying within the boundary of the ring lock fencing.
We reside at the rear of the property in a fully fenced area with two dogs. The campsite is located near the front of the property. There are melaleuca trees/bush between both locations that offer privacy and the perfect setting for a campsite.
You’ll have the whole site to yourself or with your traveling companions. (The site can accommodate up to 3 vans if travelling together). It’s self check-in, and we’ll respect your privacy — the area is yours to enjoy.
Pets are welcome off leash, provided they are under control and you remain mindful of the local wildlife. We often see families of kangaroos, the occasional echidna, and several bird species that love the Melaleuca trees on our property.
There’s a lean-to shed for your use and plenty of great spots to set up your van or tent. Please note you’ll need to be fully self-sufficient regarding power and ablution facilities. There is however a 3000 litre fresh water tank for your use.
During the autumn and winter months, once the spring/summer fire ban is lifted, you’ll have access to a fire pit and firewood for a cozy campfire.
At night time the night sky is amazing, so much to see. Most nights the ocean can be heard in the distance breaking on the reef. Perfect location to rest/recharge.

The original cottage is still on site and is a long term renovation project for us, it may be old but holds lots and lots of history behind them walls.
The verandah area is yours to use, if you wish, for a bit of extra room to escape the rain or provide a bit of shade (depending on season) it has a powerpoint and light for your convenience.

Camping is on the front entrance of the property only, it is fairly flat land with a high western bush rise protecting from westerlies. The site overlooks the surrounding valley landscape. The access road is fairly quiet.
The property is surrounded by restaurants, north and south, amazing beaches, like South Beach in Port Denison and up and down the coast. There is a wild life sanctuary in Greenough and a Tavern in near by Walkaway. There are also several dog boarding kennels.
In Geraldton north is a very popular international wind surfing community and surfing is well catered for as well.
Bookara is surrounded by organic farms and there is a local goat cheese factory, and many other enterprises.
Up past Walkaway is Denison's pool a local gorge and an indigenous heritage site.
It goes without saying that the fishing is good too.
There are sheep on the property, so care must be taken entering and leaving the property.

We loved camping at Mellaleuca Grove.
What an amazing spot to base yourself at and explore the surrounds. Beach was just minutes away.
Site itself was huge with plenty of shady spots if needed. The little shed was such a nice bonus with plenty of freshwater, a sink and bins for our rubbish.
Highly recommended.

"We had a wonderful stay at Dougal Retreat! It is such a beautiful space to truly spend time in nature with the family. Nothing was too much trouble for Sara and Paul—they were incredibly accommodating and even helped us get some power to run our aircon on a particularly hot day, which was a lifesaver.
Our daughter was over the moon being able to help Sara feed the horses, and we all loved throwing sticks for their friendly farm dogs. The facilities are great; there is a clean toilet and shower, and a very welcoming shed with a rustic camp kitchen. We spent our evenings watching the sunset and staring at the stars, which were so bright out there. It was also a huge plus that we could bring our own dog along!
The spots are secluded with plenty of space, and it's just a short drive to the river mouth. We can imagine it would be just as wonderful in the winter with a fire to sit by. Thank you Sara and Paul for being such welcoming hosts!"

Fantastic place to stay for a quiet break. Facilities are clean and the ‘lean to shed’ is a lovely touch. Kangaroos came through one night and it’s a good place to star gaze. Would definitely recommend.

Our family of 4, plus our golden retriever pup had a great stay at Hill Farm. It was a treat to have green grass at our feet. The kids loved the open space and freedom to just play. Our pup enjoyed the space to play with her ball. Thank you to Anita for opening this space to allow travellers to rest.

It was so nice having actual green grass to camp on in the middle of summer after the extreme dry areas I had been to recently. My 4 kelpies thought they were in heaven. Simone and Ross were site sitting on hilly Anita was away and they did an awesome job of watering, helping out and been down right nice people. Although I was self contained, having access to clean bore water was a bonus in the heat for extra play water for my dogs. The bush walk to the river was nice especially find a couple of areas still flowing at this time of year

The beautiful spot in surrounded by Melaleuca trees wrapped in solar fairy lights. There is only one site so no other campers ! The area is clean, flat and well maintained and Marianne has even supplied a small shed to use, potable water and scattered bench seats throughout the area to relax and enjoy the sunsets in absolute peace and quiet . Close to dog beaches which I needed with my 4 Kelpies. Shops, bars and restaurants within 15 mins drive. A secluded gem of a place to stay in a busy and popular tourist locality

Would highly recommend stopping at this beautiful place. I arrived to a warm welcome from Sara, she was very accommodating and understanding as she helped me settle in. The place was beautiful with heaps of room for for families and a walk away from the river . I got to park near the horses and the pony , too cute 😊 Thank you Sara for making me feel welcome 🙏

Dongara Bush Camp was a fantastic place to base ourselves for the Dongara area. Although the Coastal conditions were hot and windy, the DBC site was sheltered and shaded. It was a short 5 minute drive to the beach and shops but it was always great to return to the peaceful bush camp. Having a super clean flushing toilet and delicious rainwater was a great bonus. We enjoyed the spacious camp kitchen which was full of character and provided a comfortable place to relax and share a meal. We came for one night and stayed for three, we could not recommend this place highly enough.

Just as described in the ad. Easy to find, a quiet field next to the owners property.
The dogs were fine, didn’t bother us at all - they were more interested in the neighbours dog.
Didn’t meet the host as we arrived around 7pm and left at 5am.
Trees creating shade and a few swings hanging in the trees.
A lovely place, would visit again and recommend.
