Chimney Rock Chi Camps
Not an inviting space (junky) and not enough privacy. Description and photos are misleading. Security light is abrasive and not angled in a way that helped me see.

Chimney Rock Chi Camps
While the view of the sky was nice, there isn't an actual toilet like it's listed. It's a pack out dirt hill and a shovel situation.

Great place, close to the San Juan
Great place to stay near San Juan river, about 20 minutes away. Close to City market and Walmart. My kids loved playing darts. The provided kitchen had just everything we needed. They're are a few sites for smaller tents. We had an 8 person tent. We pitched it in the circular driveway.

Wild and wonderful!
I loved Chimney Rock Chi Camps! It was wild and beautiful! We had great family camp fires! We also got a bear visitor! Be sure and put away your food and trash. It rained A LOT! But the camp had a canary over the kitchen so it worked out great.
Chimney Rock Chi Camps
This is just my second Hipcamp experience so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I probably wouldn't stay here again until it becomes more established. Amanda was nice when I needed directions and checked in later on to make sure I found the place, but I wasn't super excited about the rest. The area itself is incredibly beautiful (the sunset in the valley looked like something out of Lord of the Rings), but the tent site was a little lumpy. I ended up sleeping in the back of my SUV and was able to position it so that it was fairly level, but it took a few tries. Also, Google got me to the correct road but wrong lot/house. There's no cell reception so needed to drive almost all the way back to Pagosa Springs to contact Amanda and get the description of the site. Turns out there's a rock with the lot number painted on it, but it's only about the size of a football and is on the ground and easy to miss unless you know what to look for. A more obvious sign (or detailed directions once you make the reservation) would go a long way toward making this a better experience.
Also, lots of barking dogs in the distance, including one that barked on and off until after midnight, and some of the yards in the area look like junk yards, with discarded mattresses and other garbage. I took a walk around the neighborhood and while I felt safe by myself in the daylight, I wasn't fully confident about sleeping there on my own, which is the other reason I slept in the car. The camp site itself has the air of a construction site (which it is as there's a partially built house there). Despite all of this, I think this spot has potential and that once it becomes better organized it could have an inviting vibe that overrides the negatives, but it's not quite there yet.
