Desolation Gray Canyon—and the Green River that splits it 10,000 feet below—is heaven for the casual rafter and lover of multi-day float trips.

The rapids are easy and allow every member on board to enjoy the beautiful rugged scenery, varied wildlife, and decent hiking spots. You can access the canyons (with a permit) via the primitive boat ramp at Sand Wash Ranger Station, where eight screen cabins are located. Because the area is relatively remote, many groups choose to stay the night in the cabins before embarking on the river. But, be prepared for the mosquitos at Sand Wash—the cabins have screens for a reason.

Located exactly halfway between Salt Lake and Moab, The Store is a historic 113 year-old general store building that originally served the coal miners who lived and worked in the small former mining town of Kenilworth. Now, it's a creative retreat, art space and desert permaculture site. We have a large indoor co-working/art studio space (and gigabit wifi) should you like to be productive during your stay. Or simply relax and enjoy the peace, quiet and serenity that this mountain sanctuary provides. We are also surrounded by wilderness and outdoor recreation opportunities, including endless hiking, mountain biking and ATV trails. The nearby artists colony of Helper has lots of amenities and offerings including a floatable river with beaches and swimming holes. Within 30 minutes’ drive are several major tourist attractions such as Nine Mile Canyon, Gordon Creek Falls, and the San Rafael Swell.

Wood Hill Campground

But there are also several single track bike trails to enjoy. With 238 acres, you will feel like you are the only one there. In addition, the Desert Wave Pool is at the foot of the hill which always has the same amount of water for cooling off even when the lakes are nearly empty. Learn more about this land: Wood Hill got its name because early settlers to the area used to gather wood to heat their homes on top of the plateau. It is a favorite hangout for locals who enjoy riding mountain bikes and ATVs on the property. Proceeds from the camp sites will be used to develop a climbing gym, zip line, confidence course and other fun amenities. So we hope you enjoy your stay enough to come back often.

This is a very natural place with awesome rock formations, abundant wildlife etc. I did find an ancient axe head years ago in one of the crevices. Up above camp is a rock formation I have always called "Mike Rushmore". Learn more about this land: This is a really cool place and I get a lot of compliments from those that have been here or have seen it. It's a hikers paradise with lots of rock features, sandy areas, tons of trees, wildlife and all the beautiful plant life of a high desert. The lake is close by for Fishing, kayaking, boating, or just a good ole swim about 10 minutes away. So, here is what you get on my 15 acres. Me, as your host to show you around and let you pick from several spots available where you would like to camp on the upper 5 acres for RV, truck, tent,, etc. I can accomidate whatever. For those that want the natural experience I suggest down below. So cool. There is no one right next to me to the north, south, east, or west. Very private. It is off grid.. With numerous rivers and secluded access to Starvation Reservoir you can enjoy many recreational activities such as Fishing, Boating, Kayaking, Jet Skiing, ATV off-roading, hiking, mountain biking. You can rent Paddle boards or other camping gear/goods from us for an extra fee. We also offer a personal off roading tour for those who seek a unique adventure with our Sand Dune Jeep Safari. Our family of 6 took the leap and left the city life in order to reconnect to the land on this 11 acre property. We are in the beginnings of our homestead journey and hope to create a space for guests like you to enjoy our animal rescue, camp retreats for groups, classes on herbalism and camp for kids where they can learn basic survival skills. It is this love for nature and the gifts that it offers to us all that we want to share our land with others. We currently offer 1 Tent Site with a fire pit and an outhouse. There is also the option for RV site on the main pad. We will be expanding and offering more sites in the coming months. The river is constantly changing so the exact location of the campsite is adjusted accordingly to provide the best experience for our guests. You will have a private campsite with BBQ pit or fire ring, fire starter kit, and wood. There is access to a common area for latrine, dressing area, gravity fed solar shower, and eco-friendly toiletries. The river is full of fun and relaxation. There are life vests, kid and adult kayaks, sand toys, and more available for rent. The campsite is on the fringe of a large hay farm so you may spot farming in action. Expect a 15-20 minute drive to downtown with many food, entertainment, and amenities offered. There is a diversity of wildlife to be seen on site. It is a bird watchers paradise, don't be surprised if you spot a bald eagle, Canadian geese, peregrine falcon, cranes, meadow lark, red-wing black bird, and more! Depending on the time of year you may see deer, antelope, racoon, beaver, or the occasional skunk or coyote.

This is a great rest area tucked away behind a hilly landscape and out of sight of Hwy 40. Go to bed under the stars and if you're a late nighter you'll be mesmerized at the sight of the stunning Milky Way. There is a tent pad able to fit up to 6 people, a fire ring and spacious horseshoe driveway for parking multiple vehicles or a small to midsize RV/Camper trailer. Newly installed is a rustic country style privacy fence. This is a no frills campsite where you will need to provide your own water, toilet and firewood (We can provide firewood for an extra fee). There is a rest stop with restrooms just down the road going east on hwy 40 if needed. Pack it in and pack it out.

Ancient juniper and pinyon pine trees line the wash below. There is also a large of ritual cleansing artemisia sage, which people have used the smoke to purify clothes and even themselves.The property crosses one of the oldest roads in the west. Many pioneers, miners, Native Americans and even Spanish conquistadors crossed this path. Some say they can feel the spirits of those crossing through the treacherous desertThe campsite sits along a 75 foot wash. The sunrise and cloud formations are almost alway amazing because of the altitude of 6700 ft. and the basin shape to the entire area. The stars are crystal clear, you can see the Milky Way almost any night.
