Are you looking for some shade from the often scorching Texas sun, or do you want to post up camp as close to the shimmering waters of Lake Texana as possible?

Take your pick at this campground. There are a total of 141 campsites to choose from, and a good number of them sit super close to the cove’s edge. Other campsites are nestled beneath the expansive branches of old oak trees, which cast plenty of shade. Each site comes with water and electric hookups, a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, and a few have sewer hookups for RVers, too.

Your guide to camping in Lake Texana Campground

Overview

Biking

Miles of trails let you bike almost the full perimeter of Texana Park and Campground, making your bike one of the best ways to explore the woods that surround Lake Texana. Deer, snakes, and alligators are just some of the animals you may spot from the trail. Miles of bike trails extend outward from Texana Park’s parking lots and campgrounds, and will lead you along the shores of the lake and into the shaded woods.

Boating

With a name like Lake Texana, you know it’s going to be big. 10,000 acres of open fresh water make Texana Park and Campground a boater’s paradise. Water sports are welcome, and you’ll see plenty of jet skis taking advantage of the wide, open waters. A boat ramp near the park’s main facilities will launch you into the calm waters of the cove, but don’t be deceived: the lake is much bigger than it looks from shore.

Fishing

There are plenty of hungry crappie, catfish and white bass waiting for you at Lake Texana. A lighted fishing pier allows for epic late night or early morning fishing, and the cleaning station and fishing jetty make for a mess-free catch. Fish from shore, or bring your tackle out on the boat. Something’s bound to bike at Lake Texana.

Hiking

Miles of trails weave through Texana Park and Campground, so whether you’re hiking to the water’s edge to go for a dip in the hot Texas sun, or looking for woodland creatures in the forest, you’ll enjoy a hike around Lake Texana. The Texana Trail encircles the cove, offering plenty of scenery, and is even wheelchair accessible, while the Savannah Trail takes you right to the shores of the awesome Lake Texana. Consult this map to find out which trail is best for you.

Horseback riding

The nearby Equestrian Trail is a 12.5-mile path that will take you and your horse through shaded woods and open grasslands. Bring along a picnic and stop for a while at one of the picnic tables, but be sure to bring plenty of water, as it is only available at the trailhead. The path is wide enough for four riders to travel side by side, making the Equestrian Trail a great activity for families and friends. Trail passes are $7.50 per horse, and overnight trailer parking is also available.

Paddling

Texana Park and Campground is located along the coves of Lake Texana’s western shore. This is good news for paddlers, who can settle into the peaceful waters in their kayak or canoe, and enjoy the serenity of Lake Texana close to home. A paddling trail leads you all the way away around the cove, so whether you drop your boat in at the main boat ramp or the northern canoe and kayak area, it’s easy to explore every inch of the cove.

Wildlife watching

A hike through the woodlands will turn up plenty of creatures, including white-tailed deer, armadillos, and even bobcats and turkeys. Stop by the nature center for all the info you’ll need on identifying the animals and birds of the woods. Alligators make occasional cameos at Texana Park and Campground, so stay your distance and check in with the staff at the nature center if you have questions or concerns.
