Similar to Juniper Ridge and Lakeside campgrounds, you can get a full-on glamping experience at one of five screened shelters in Crosstimbers or book from fifteen other tent and RV-friendly sites.

All shelters have a light, electricity, and a picnic table inside, as well as a fire ring with fold-away grill outside. Eight sites in Crosstimbers are pull-through, best for high-rollers with motor homes and trailers over 20 feet. The other seven, for smaller tents, pop-ups, and vans. Glamp or no glamp, Crosstimbers has a camp for everyone!

Lots of good hiking trails around the lake at this park.

Your guide to camping in Crosstimbers Campground

Overview

Biking

Although mountain and trail biking is not permitted within the park, paved road loops around three sides of the lake, encircling nearby streams. These calm, paved roads make for great casual biking. You’ll bike through Ashe juniper and oak trees, up gradual hills, and past scenic lake views. One section of Shinnery Ridge Trail is paved and accessible to bikes and wheelchairs, offering a little taste of riding through the woods. This park map will set you on your way from the campground to the open road.

Boating

Boating is a great way to see Meridian State Park’s 72-acre lake, but beware: only no-wake boating is permitted. The boat launch is located on the lake’s eastern shore, right by the Lakeside Campground, and the pointed coves of the shoreline make it a great lake to explore by boat.

Fishing

Bream, crappie, catfish and largemouth bass all populate the expansive lake. Fish from the shore, or head out on the canoe. Small streams extend out of the lake, as well, and offer more primitive fishing spots. Campsites are located close to the shore, perfect for some early morning fishing. Meridian State Park also loans out fishing gear, so don’t worry if you’re only a beginner or don’t have your own tackle.

Hiking

Bosque Hiking Trail, which fully encircles Lake Meridian, should be at the top of your Meridian State Park checklist. The 2.5-mile trail follows the shore, passing through lush forests and down to the water, where you can explore the vegetation. Stop by the scenic overlook for a picture, or check out the fossils in the limestone outcroppings. Check out a trail map for more hiking options. The Shinnery Ridge Trail offers partial wheelchair accessibility, and the Little Springs Trail is perfect for anyone with water shoes.

Paddling

Lake Meridian is a great size for paddling. Traverse the 72 acres of water with a paddle in hand, and you’ll find beautiful views and new amphibian friends in the narrow, shallow waters by the shore. Kayaks and canoes can be launched near Lakeside Campground on the eastern shore. Paddle north and wave to the hikers on the high shore, or explore the streams and creeks south and east of the lake. To top it off, Lake Meridian is no-wake only, so you’ll only find peaceful waters here.

Swimming

Crisp blue waters and lush green shores are the perfect backdrop for a swim at Lake Meridian. The best swimming spot is on the lake’s eastern shore, beside the boat launch. Nearby picnic tables are a great place to dry off with a snack. The Bosque Hiking Trail meanders past the designated swim area, so if you head out for a hike, don’t forget a bathing suit. Nearby parking and showers make swimming in Lake Meridian as convenient as it is fun, and the no-wake waters make for plenty of serenity if you’re just looking for a peaceful float.
