Your perfect day at the beach doesn’t have to end at Assateague Island National Seashore.

Keep your suit on and your shoes off as you head to their walk-in camping with tent-only sites within 200 feet of the parking area. Stay up all night staring into the campfire and watch the sun rise over your front row Atlantic Ocean view. Keep the sand out of your s’mores and you’re golden!

This campground takes reservations six months in advance, and the sites sell out FAST! If you even have an inkling that you might want to camp here, mark your calendar and plan ahead. TIP: The bay side camping sites are mosquito havens. Try to stay on the beach side. There are still mosquitoes, but they are less of a problem if the wind is blowing in from the ocean.

Best place on earth so far but don't feed the horses.

Without a doubt one of the my places to camp. Unlike other "beach camping" on the west coast, here you are actually on the beach. Aside from the famous ponies, cute little bunnies & mini deer run thru the campsites at dusk. Nice bike riding trails & marsh hikes. Bring shade, sand stakes, strong coolers & keep your distance from the ponies. They will bite & kick. Go in the fall to avoid the bugs.

The wind off the ocean help keep away the mosquitoes but when I had to run back to my I was ruthlessly attacked.

Beautiful location but watch out for that wind! Make sure you have tent stakes for sand (twist-in)

Great island and wonderful beaches. Privacy is limited as you are just camping on the dunes so be aware, also the horses can be quite pushy but a water spray bottle keeps them at bay.

Bring bug spray. Also, make sure your coolers are either lockable, secured with bungees and clips, or in your car.
