Take a ride on the quiet side—Seawell Campground is tucked away in the far southern end of the park, a full 18-miles from the most popular sites and attractions of the park loop road.

What this area lacks in popularity, it makes up for in rugged beauty. You’ll find quiet hiking trails, the beautiful Bass Harbor Lighthouse, and the perfect lake for swimming and boating. Seawell Campground is just a 10-minute walk from the ocean’s edge, so bring your camera and come out and explore this national treasure.

My favorite campground on Mt. Desert Island. Much quieter there on the southern "lobe" of the isalnd. Still with many great hiking options nearby. Flying Mountain trail has nice views of the sound.

I loved this campground! It is SO close to the water! The grounds were very well kept and easy to navigate. And the lobster shack down the road is a must!

Good amount of privacy, the tent area is set back from the road. It is a bit of a drive from the main attractions - 20-30min. Very clean facilities.

Bring a waterproof tent if you're going in the spring!

Really a great spot. You can ride a bike or walk to the water and be there in 5-10minutes. It's on the "quiet" side of the island. Check out my families trip to Acadia here: http://nearlyoutdoormom.blogspot.com/2016/08/family-adventure-pittsburgh-to-acadia_18.html

We camped at this site last weekend and it was very peaceful. Being so close to the ocean you can hear the waves crashing through the night. The bathrooms were very nice and maintained on a daily basis. The showers are about half a mile away from the campsite and you have to pay to use them. They are only open from 8 am - 8 pm and the last shower is at 7:30 pm. All and all if you are looking to get away from the busyness of the crowds this is the place to go!

Such a great spot. I stayed Memorial Day weekend and spent the night shooting the Milky Way across the road from the campground. Super view of the stars up this way and Bar Harbor is close by. 5 minutes away is Wonderland, a lush stretch of land that leads to the rocky shore.

The quieter campground of the park owned sites. This is my favorite for families, or bigger groups, because of the close proximity to the rocky beach & access to grills and tables for group gatherings! Definitely the right choice if you're looking to be more camping based & looking for a quieter experience. Manset & Bass Harbor/ Tremont, which are the bordering towns are tiny fishing communities for the most part, and some of the most beautiful and idyllic New England coast.

Gorgeous little ocean side campground! Being right on the ocean, it can get quite chilly at night, even at the height of summer, so bring warm clothes!
