Sugarloaf is a quiet campground on the banks of the Williams Fork River in Arapaho National Forest.

All 11 campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it great for last-minute getaways in this part of Colorado. Nestled between the Ptarmigan Peaks Wilderness and Byers Peak Wilderness in the Williams Fork Valley, Sugarloaf Campground is set near multiple hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trailheads. All campsites have picnic tables and fire grates, plus access to a vault toilet. Heads up: There is no potable water at this campground, but drinking water is available at the South Fork Campground a half-mile away.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • All 11 campsites at Sugarloaf Campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Sugarloaf is generally considered a light-usage campground, but you’ll want to arrive early to snag a spot on summer weekends.
  • When to Go

Sugarloaf Campground is seasonal and tends to open from early June to early October, based on snowpack. For info on the current season’s exact operating dates and road conditions, call the Arapaho National Forest ranger station at (970) 295-6600. At 8,970 feet in elevation, the campground experiences mild temperatures even in summer, with cool nights and the potential for rain showers and thunderstorms. Even with cooler temperatures, campers should plan for high UV exposure during the day due to the altitude.
