Located just inside the park entrance, this group campground holds up to 50 people.

While it is a walk to the top of the peak, there are several trailheads just outside the site that makes wandering through the beautiful scenery to achieve the stunning views of Monterey Bay well worth the journey.

I’ve been to Fremont Peak campground several times asi live nearby. Be advised that it is usually very windy in the afternoons so tie everything down. The winds come in from the coast so it can be cold in the spring and fall. Nice views, but not much hiking or things to do.

Your guide to camping in Doe Flat Group Campground

Overview

Biking

The Fremont Peak climb is called a climb for a reason. For bikers seeking out a challenge, Fremont Peak is a great route with challenging gradients along the way. At the top, your hard work will be rewarded with a view of the Moss Landing smoke stacks. Some parts of this route are uncovered, so if you’re going in the heat of summer, you may want to tackle this one early.

Hiking

There isn’t a ton of hiking here and the camping is a bit more “basic,” but the hike to the peak 360 degree views. This is popular destination for photographers as well - pray for fog! The peak rises majestically above the sea of fog and the views are dreamlike.

Wildlife watching

Canyons come with all sorts of interesting critters, and Fremont Peak State Park is no exception. Coyotes, bobcats, raccoons all call the area home, as do foxes, deer and turkey buzzards.. Keep your eye out for slithery friends as well, as snakes and lizards also enjoy the hilly, dry countryside.
