We had a fantastic time

We had a fantastic time at Andrea's place! It was a hot day, but the surrounding trees provided plenty of shade, keeping things cool and comfortable. We loved watching the stars at night and catching the sunrise in the morning. The absolute highlight was the relaxing hot soaking tub—it was perfect! Just a heads-up, as other guests have mentioned, there are mosquitos, so be sure to bring bug spray. Also, make sure you follow the directions Andrea provides; they are clear but essential for not getting lost. We highly recommend a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the trip.

Tub in the woods

A bath in the woods with a view? Who would have thought! Definitely the highlight of our yurt camping experience. Even my 19 year old son said it was his favorite part. I loved the vibe of the yurt. We usually rough it so I totally felt spoiled crawling in to my real bed at the end of the day. And my daughter said tea on the bench watching the sun rise over the mountains was her highlight. (The red yurt slept three adults easily, could have done 2 more if we wanted.)

Hammocks, Stars, and Tranquillity

Great woodland camping. I took a short trip on a weekday to see the Perseides meteor shower as Shangri-La camp is located in a low light pollution area, class 2 of 9 on the Bortle scale, 1 being the darkest. Campsite 3 has a good sky view for this. Unfortunately the moon was around 83% on my trip, but still beautiful. I was also looking for a place to test out my new 11’ camping hammock and stationed a Camp 2, this was perfect. I had fun testing out my new setup, it can be difficult to gauge online sometimes if the tree distances will work for you. Camp 2 and Camp 1 both had a handful of hammock spots with good trees spaced at 14’-16’. Very good for the 11’ and 12’ camping hammocks that need a bit more room to lash up. The campgrounds have a good layout, and the whole area was well maintained, with the luxury of a flush bathroom. I enjoyed the solar powered path marker lights that illuminated the paths right after dusk. While I did not stay in a Yurt as I prefer the dirt, they did look very nice from the road. The poison ivy was managed very well around the camp. I did not see a single tick. A few mosquitos at dawn and dusk but not a problem that a little repellent couldn’t solve. Caught a glimpse at a deer and a jackrabbit both hopping through the meadow as well. I believe I was the only camper that night and it was without any human noise pollution, just crickets doing their thing. No cell service (AT&T) it’s a good thing! Will come back, great stay.

I absolutely loved this spot! Me and my four girlfriends had a blast. I couldn’t believe the view just outside the Yurt. Had my morning coffee at that viewpoint each morning during my stay. There is also a short hike to a BEAUTIFUL meadow! The trail to this meadow begins just steps away from the yurt.

Over-priced Field

I ended up not staying at the campground after setting up some of my gear. It was such a stressful event to try to find alternative lodging 4 hours from home and an hour+ from cell service. The listing is deceptive. 1.) you loose cell service on both Verizon and ATT about an hour from the campground 2.) the “campground” is just a brush-hogged field for the most part. 3.) the whole area is infested with mosquitoes, biting flies and poison oak (even the tent spots). My dogs were swarmed from the moment we exited the car. 4.) there was no one at the site to check in with. It was pretty unnerving to be that far away from civilization and cell service, and not have anyone greet you or have any signs. It felt abandoned and had big Deliverance vibes. 5.) the only “building” set up on site was a creepy 1970’s camper attached to a shed. 6.) bathroom is a single stall lean to. All the camp sites smelled like sewer and I think the septic wasn’t installed properly. This is probably the source of all the flies and mosquitoes. 7.) there’s no trails, views, or streams 8.) the 8+ mile dirt road up the mountain is BRUTAL on your car, even with AWD. 9.) I booked a sound bath add on, not sure where that would have occurred but there’s no amenities on site to call this place a “retreat”. 10.) there was nothing at my site other than a rock ring and a cheap charcoal grill. No seat or table. 11.) Not 100 acres. The 3 tent sites, 2 yurts and bathroom are all within a 4 acre footprint.

Great glamping experience. The ride up is a bit rough, but the reward is total seclusion. We were the only guests, and even if there had been others, they would have been out of sight. The yurt was great, and the soaking tub amazing. A very unique experience. I would recommend staying two nights in a row for a full day of calm and disconnect. We stayed one night, and it felt too short.

We had a great time at Shangri-La! Andrea was a great host, meeting up with us on our first day to give us the lay of the land, and keeping the sites clear and bathroom stocked. Our site was relatively private with access to a spring water spigot and flush toilet. Andrea directed us to a great hike nearby that while steep was very rewarding, passing an old oak tree and leading to an expansive clearing with terrific views. Turnouts to access Eel River are plentiful on the road leading to the entrance. Heed the provided description: you will need a 4WD/AWD vehicle to make the climb into the property. Take a screenshot of the directions as there is no cellular service on site or immediately nearby. Plan on making a 20-25 minute drive to get reception. Hopper's Corner Store in Potter Valley is the only place in the area for essentials so stock up there on your way in, or it'll be a 30 minute drive back to Potter Valley, and almost an hour to Ukiah. If you're looking for a relatively remote car-camping experience that still offers modern amenities like running water and a flush toilet, this is the place!

Andrea’s Shangri-La was such a sweet escape for our group over Memorial Day weekend. Andrea & her husband were both welcoming & helpful providing info about the grounds and happenings around town. We loved exploring the land, taking in the beautiful views & the campground was great. They provided brand new cookers & the bathroom made for a comfortable stay. Highly recommend!

Wonderful camping, some drawbacks

Pros: Huge property with stunning scenery and nature sounds (the wind in the trees sounds like ocean waves!). Lots of big bugs for kids to inspect and enjoy. Few (no?) critters. Very responsive and helpful host. Cons: Trip there includes 45-60min of bumpy unpaved roads. Campsite 3 is next to a small creek which creates muddy ground and generates a good amount of mosquitos.

Really beautiful spot and very accommodating host. It's worth getting a little bit off the beaten track of this gem. The host is so accommodating and really does a lot to make this play special. Definitely worth it and we will be back!

The site was gorgeous and it was a plus having a flushing toilet and running water near by. The drive up was steep so I would recommend a 4x4. It rained on us the second night and the roads were wet so this made it much easier. Overall great views and secluded sites.

Winter camping at red yurt

We had an amazing time at the red yurt this MLK weekend. The view from the site was breathtaking. The yurt was well equipped and the bed was super comfortable. We rented the portable heater and it saved us because of how cold it was. Only downside, we ran out of propane early the second morning but that was primarily because we had to run it earlier than expected. We will definitely be back during the warmer months. Andrea came by to say hi and make sure we were good to go. Highly encourage you to have AWD vehicle for the dirt road to the site. The tub was phenomenal!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the red yurt. The views were lovely, and the site had everything as described. The bed was incredibly comfortable! And it was very private. I LOVED the tub, it was such a nice touch, I couldn't get over the views from there! Andrea's directions were easy to follow, and you can also use Waze to get there without any problem. This place was so special, we will definitely be coming back!

We loved our time in the red yurt (site 1)! The site and amenities were just as described, with some additional bonuses like a hammock and lawn games. The yurt was spacious and clean, and the tub was MUCH appreciated after a day down at the river!

My friends & I had such a lovely stay! There was plenty of space for two cars & a tent (we could’ve had at least two more tents!) & the potable water + fire pit + bathroom close by was great. I have a Honda CRV & could make it up the road just fine (although if you’ve never driven off-road before I’d recommend driving slowly to avoid a flat). I used Apple maps & it took us right there, but I would still download them in advance & rely on the written directions given in the bio. Eel river was an easy 20min drive down the road & there were plenty of spots to park. The host was extremely accommodating & came by the first night to check in!

Scavenger hunt（lol）

The camper was quiet, and the restrooms were a two-minute walk from the camper (they were flush toilets.) Very nice!). The tent was stuffy during the day, but at night it was refreshing. The mosquitoes are a bit more prevalent nearer the evening, but it might be helpful to bring a good outdoor anti-mosquito aromatherapy. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience, a bit like a scavenger hunt to find the campsite as there was no internet and everyone was very serious about finding the signposts, a very special experience for me. The owners of the campground were also very friendly, as well as coming up to help us with our less-than-skilled oven usage (thanks!) All in all would highly recommend camping here.

Peaceful getaway!

Such a peaceful, beautiful piece of land! The green yurt was easy to find, private and spotless! Andrea stocked it with lights, a speaker and a power bank as well as earth friendly Castile soap for the magical tub! I had no problem with the water temperature and could have soaked for hours. And the new bathroom was spacious and clean. Just be aware you can’t have food in the yurt which was tough because the mosquitos were relentless even with bug spray so I had to eat in my car haha! So have a back up plan in case of bad weather, etc. Made it there with no problems in my Subaru Crosstrek! Worth every penny. Thank you Andrea!

Cozy yurt in extremely remote forest by a creek. Super quiet, with bath tub in screened in porch with forest views. Quite a drive up on rough roads, basic lodging, but well worth it if you need to disconnect from humanity.

We had a wonderful romantic getaway on Andrea’s land. Red yurt was very private and view was beautiful. Great star gazing and quiet area. Tub has very hot water and big enough for two! Bed in yurt was firm and comfortable. Get the heater, yurt gets cold at night! Thank you for a perfect weekend Andrea!

Overall we had a good experience. We went in late March and definitely needed the propane heater at night as it got quite cold. We felt the additional charge for the heater was a bit steep. The yurt was cute and comfortable. Bed is extremely comfortable! We were the only ones at camp, so it felt very private and secluded. Definitely recommend AWD -- the last 30 min. or so is some difficult terrain. We had a pickup truck and honestly we still had some nerve-wracking moments due to heavy rain recently and muddy dirt road. The soaking tub was a nice touch, but it didn't really get that hot and took forever to fill up. The water comes out hot from the tap, but because it took so long to fill, by the time you're ready to get into the bath, the water has gone lukewarm. So, that was a little disappointing. Overall I think the property is a bit overpriced for what you get. Honestly for this amount of money I would just get an Airbnb next time, or pay less and go real camping (vs. this glamping option).
