Nestled in a wild grassland, and dotted with cottonwood trees at the south end of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great base camp for exploring the wild west town of Medora, the park’s incredible ring road, and the miles and miles of hiking trails that crisscross the landscape.

Your perfect itinerary should include a morning hike, an afternoon jaunt into town, followed by a sunset drive around the park to search for glimpses of elk, prairie dogs, bison, and wild horses. When the starry sky envelops your campsite in a majestic embrace, you’ll agree with us—it’s one of the most magical places on earth. `

Great campground for beginners. We were in a walk-in tent so there wasn't much privacy, but it was quiet enough. The pull-in spots are more enclosed by trees. Water spouts and dumpster was very close by and the bathrooms were central and equipped with flush toilets and sinks.
