Dog-friendly camping with mountain views between Anglesey and Snowdonia

Tyn Y Ffridd Farm is set between the mountains and the sea. It's 10 minutes to the edge of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), 10 minutes to the Menai Bridge, connecting beach-fringed Anglesey with the Welsh mainland, and 15 minutes to the foot of Yr Wfydda (Mount Snowdon). In short, it's a cracking North Wales location.

On the surface, Tyn Y Ffridd Farm is a small campsite. Technically there are just 10 camping pitches. But it's bigger than the stats imply. This is a pitch-where-you-please campsite on a vast scale and there’s plenty of room to spread out. Campers have access across some 30 acres: Most choose to stay in the main camping field for easy access to the facilities but if you’re feeling adventurous you can strike out into the surrounding fields and woodland.

In the main camping area, toilets, showers and a handy communal kitchen are all housed in a former farm building. The kitchen has a microwave, kettle and fridge and there’s a brick-built barbecue and pizza oven outside as well. Campfires are allowed and there are a limited number of fire pits available to borrow free of charge.

Campers are not the only guests on Tyn Y Fridd Farm; there are holiday cottages and cabins here too. They all have access to the shared social spaces: The Cow Shed is an undercover space with sofas, seating, a pool table, and ping pong (a great asset in bad weather). But when the sun shines, it’s time to get out there and explore all that North Wales to offer. Whizz down zip lines at Penrhyn Quarry, spend a day at the beach, or explore Beaumaris Castle. You won't be short of choices.

Enjoy a night under the stars in your own tent. Get back to nature & enjoy some time away from the hustle & bustle with friends and family. Located at Tyn Y Ffridd Farm on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park you will have access to enjoy 30 acres of private farm land with views across to the Snowdonia Range. There is a shower & toilet block plus a communal kitchen for you to use. This is a working farm so if you choose a remote part of the farm away from the toilet & shower block you might be joined by sheep & cows - so don’t forget suitable footwear.

Lovely site overall,would recommend
Lovely campsite with fab facilities, they really have thought of everything. Improvements? Well, not clear on initial hip camp page that you couldn’t take car onto field which was a little disappointing. It was only after booking that we found this out in the conditions. Toilet and shower facilities great overall but in most of the toilets there was no toilet paper on arrival but neither had it been replenished the next morning.

Fantastic campsite with great views and surroundings to explore. I took my dogs here and they loved it. I'm definitely planning to go back for another short stay as we loved it here.

Great views &accomodations
Great location. Lovely area with a beautiful view. Enough space for camping and for kids to run around. At the same time to gain some peace. Good amenities and we had not expected the kitchen so well equiped with oven etc. All in all great stay. Would have been lovely to stay longer. Unfortunately due to harsh winds and our bad tent we decided to leave a day earlier. Would nevertheless recommend the place if your tent can hold the wind

No loo roll!
I arrived after a 4 hour drive to find that not one of the 4 cubicles had toilet roll. This had not changed by the following morning - which means they also hadn’t cleaned/checked the facilities. I can forgive the over-long grass, the lack of response to my message, the fact that no-one appeared to greet me/check everything was ok but no loo roll….? No. That is a basic requirement for any camp site. And to charge in excess of £20 per night for this “service”? Daylight robbery. I booked for one night intending to stay a week provided it was ok. Needless to say, I left the next morning. I spoke to someone who was staying in the yurt and he said it had been an issue all week. If they don’t want to provide toilet roll, fine - but that MUST be made totally clear before people book so that they can come prepared. Oh - and only one of the 4 cubicles had a lock that worked….

We loved the site. Great toilet and shower facilities. The kitchen was way better than we expected. Loved all the rustic solutions, rather than just being like a normal kitchen and bathroom. The little dog on site was very sweet and friendly. Plus the views were stunning! Thank you :)

Nearby attractions

Tyn Y Ffridd Farm is in the little settlement of Waen-Wen, not far of the A55, North Wales Expressway, and just over three miles from Bangor. Penrhyn Castle (four miles from site) is on its outskirts. The Menai Bridge to Anglesey is just beyond and the village of Menai Bridge is only seven miles from site. On the island, Plas Newydd House and Gardens (eight miles) and Beaumaris Castle (12 miles) are popular places to visit. For a sandy beach, head for Traeth Llanddwyn (18 miles). The edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park is about eight miles from site with plenty of hiking, mountain biking and climbing on offer. Yr Wfydda (Snowdon) itself one of the closest peaks to the campsite. You can tackle it on the Llanberis route which starts just eight miles from site and if you’re not up to the hike (or just fancy going one way), the Snowdon Mountain Railway connects Llanberis with the 1,085 summit too. Zip World’s Penrhyn Quarry site is one of the closest attractions to site, just five miles away. The fastest zip line in the world is among the attractions there.

Food and drink

The closest shop is a couple of miles away at the garage on the main road – handy for the basics. For more than that, head a little further into Bangor (three miles). The Slate in Tal-y-Bont (three miles) is one of the closest places for a meal out and offers a good varied menu put together with what’s in season locally. For seafood, head to Menai Bridge (seven miles) to try Dylan’s for waterfront dining or The Anglesey Arms.
