A campsite with its own petting zoo on Anglesey

Great views, clean loos, and a petting zoo are three of the things that campers love about Ty Bughail Campsite on Anglesey. Situated in the quiet north of the island, this rural camping and glamping site is simply idyllic on a summer’s day. You wake up to views of countryside tumbling all the way to the sea and rising, in the distance, to mountains. Then spend time visiting the goats and sheep, lighting the campfire, and generally enjoying the chilled out vibes of the campsite.

This place is not just for families – all sorts of campers will love it here – but there’s no denying it’s a great set-up for those with kids. The on-site petting zoo and kids’ play area will keep children well entertained and, in the school holidays, there are a few events to keep them occupied too. Life on site is easy for grown ups as well, thanks to a little shop with fresh veg for sale and occasional visits from caterers who can take the hassle out of mealtimes. Another boon are the family-style bathrooms, which offer a shower and loo with plenty of space.

The campsite has pitches for tents, campervans and motorhomes – and well-behaved dogs are also allowed. There’s even a shepherd’s hut for anyone who prefers to glamp. In fact, this campsite could hardly be more welcoming and that’s largely down to lovely hosts, Luke and Sam. In addition to helping you settle in here they are also champions of the local area and are happy to share their knowledge whether you want to know the best place for seafood (The Lobster Pot) or a good place for a swim (Cemaes Bay).

This is a beautiful site with very good, clean facilities. Ideal for families with the animals and play area. There’s a small farm shop on site too. It’s close to Caemes and Church Bay for lovely child friendly beaches. Unfortunately our trip was cut short due to Storm Betty. As the site is on a hillside it’s prone to being quite windy so the 60mph winds were just too much. Worthwhile considering this when booking. We would love to come back when there’s better weather

Excellent fire pits.
The campsite was well laid out and we loved our pitch. Not so keen on Hurricaine Betty but this was Not the fault of the campsite owners. Loved the washing machine drum fire pits.

Lovely stay, great for the kids!
Lovely site, clean and tidy, good location and lovely to have the animals roaming about and the play area to entertain kids. Only comments would be when the site is busy there are only 5 bathrooms so there were often queues for them. The bathrooms are clean and look great with the wood panelling but some lacked hooks to hang clothes/towels, hand wash and paper towels - I only mention as the holders for the were empty. Not sure if this was a one off but otherwise everything was great and the owners were pleasant and helpful.

Ty Bugail Camping and Glamping is located in Llanrhyddlad Anglesey. We are a 5 acre site in an AONB with sea and mountain views, amazing sunsets and a petting farm with goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, ducks, rabbits and turkeys. We are a short drive to several amazing beaches, great coastal paths and some of the best restaurants on the island.
Nearby attractions

Ty Bughail campsite is situated just off the A5025. Stick with that road going north and you soon reach Cemaes (four miles), where there are two sand and shingle beaches in addition to the northernmost town in Wales. It’s a similar distance to the North Wales Wildlife Trust Reserve at Cemlyn Bay, a shingle shore and saltwater lagoon that’s home to an impressive and noisy tern colony. Another great beach to head for is Church Bay (just under four miles). There are plenty more beaches to choose from on the island and you can walk between them on the Anglesey Coastal Path if you’re a keen walker. Alternatively hop in the car and you can reach anywhere on the island within about 45 minutes including Beaumaris Castle and Plas Newydd House and Gardens. Even Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park can be visited on a day trip as it’s just an hour away from site.

Food and drink

There’s a small shop selling fresh vegetables and other local produce as well as occasionally visiting caterers offering snacks and meals for those who don’t fancy cooking. If you’re spending the day at Cemaes Bay (four miles), try The Stag or The Harbour for lunch out. If you’re at Church Bay, The Lobster Pot is a good option for excellent seafood. Otherwise, The White Eagle in Rhoscolyn (11 miles) is recommended by your hosts.
