Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Riverside glamping in the Brecon Beacons with wild swimming, woodland walks and mountain hikes on the doorstep.

For sheer rugged beauty, the Brecon Beacons National Park takes some topping. The UK’s seventh largest national park features some of Wales’ highest mountain ranges, acres of enchanting woodland and a whole region bejewelled with spectacular waterfalls. It’s an outdoor adventurist’s dream, with myriad walks to enjoy and dramatic scenery to savour – an area that’s perfectly suited to sate our longing to ‘get away from it all’. And at a perfectly appointed little glamping retreat in the heart of the Beacons, there’s arguably no better spot in the national park to take it all in.

Set just four miles outside Brecon town amidst the foothills of the mighty Pen-y-Fan, Camp Cynrig is an off-grid glamping village – comprising a pair of Native American-style Sioux tipis, a bell tent and a fantastically handcrafted wooden cabin – that’s perfectly placed to explore this wondrous part of Mid Wales. Despite their eco-credentials (including the cabin’s ingenious solar-heated bucket shower), facilities are more than ample with comfy beds, sofas, chairs, wood-burning stoves, flushing toilets, showers and rustic cooking facilities, with all the utensils included. All units have their own barbecue-cum-firepit for enjoying star-studded evenings of this designated dark sky reserve.

Location-wise, the site is a haven for all manner of flora and fauna, thanks in no small measure to the River Cynrig which borders the site – take the small wooden footbridge leading to the National Park woodland, then follow its course for wild swimming and paddling upstream. A multitude of walking trails emanate from the glampsite into the heart of the national park, while further afield some of the Wales’ most awe-inspiring natural wonders await. If visiting in spring, head to Coed-y-Bwyndd woods to be awestruck by the bluebells or eastwards to the Usk Valley and Vale of Neath, the UK’s ‘waterfall country’ that’s home to Aberdulais, Melincourt and the 88ft Sgwd Henrhyd waterfall.

This feels very peaceful and exclusive with only 4 tents/lodges/tipis. Lovely site in a sheltered area with a little stream right beside the campsite. Facilities are basic, no electricity, but everything is well-made and clean. The woodwork is fantastic. We walked up to Pen-y-Fan and along the ridge from the campsite, so a real treat not to have to get in the car!

Camp Cynrig Glamping units - Bell Tents (with private Shepherds Hut Kitchenettes) and a Luxury Camping Cabin are set apart from each other in a gently sloping field, bordered by the river Cynrig in a quiet and peaceful area; you will not find a more perfect location. The glamping campsite is wonderful for kid's adventures, with ample space for them to play at being Indian braves whilst you relax and enjoy your peaceful surroundings, shrouded in rustic luxury. The site is home to a Bell Tent which sleeps 4 - this has a handmade double bed, log burner and its very own kitchen and dining area in a Shepherds Hut Structure hand built by Rob. We then have a larger Bell Tent which sleeps 6 and also has its own kitchen and dining area in another hand built Shepherds Hut Structure. The 6 berth Camping Cabin hand-built by Rob has a king-size memory foam bed, two sets of full-sized single bunk beds, log burner, sofas and chairs. It then has an al-fresco, undercover, kitchenette with gas hobs and woodfired oven. The cabin has a private bucket shower and toilet. We know our area inside and out and are always willing to help you plan how to spend your holiday and suggest some of what we think are the best places to visit in Wales. The glamping campsite is on land adjoining our house and we welcome both adults and children alike to wander the woodland footpath and visit our chickens. We aim to create an enjoyable and relaxing Mid Wales Holiday.
