A back-to-basics campsite on a farm in southern Snowdonia

Between the mountains and the sea of southern Snowdonia you’ll find Nant Madyn Camping. In fact, on a clear day, both are within view of here, so, if you fancy hiking and biking at heights one day and a dip in the sea the next, this is the place for you. Though, to be fair, you don’t have to do any of that at all to enjoy a pitch on this site. While it’s an excellent location as a base for exploring this part of Wales, this Hipcamp is also a perfectly pleasant place to simply relax for a while. It has a quiet location with streams babbling by, fantastic views and lovely places to walk. Plus, it’s just five miles from seaside Tywyn and less than 10 from pretty Aberdyfi.

The important thing to note is that this is a campsite on a working farm and a back-to-basics kind of place. It’s a tents-only site and suits those who’ve pitched a few times and those who are willing to embrace the outdoors. Facilities are basic: a couple of portaloos, a little shower cabin, and a sink. But, along with that, you get the freedom to camp where you please and hosts who are happy to help if you want directions to the nearest shop or recommendations for a good walk. For that, the Jones family will probably point you along one of the footpaths that passes close by and leads to their favourite viewpoint.

This is Eryri National Park (still better known as Snowdonia) so there are plenty more wonderful views. The short, sharp hike up Craig yr Aderyn (Bird Rock), two miles away, offers some. Or, for even loftier ones, how about tackling the hike up southern Snowdonia’s biggest and best-known peak, Cader Idris? It’s nine miles from site and almost 900 metres high. In the other direction, you can reach five miles of sand at the seaside resort of Tywyn. There you can enjoy all the fun of the fair, hop aboard a steam train on the Talyllyn Railway or join the Wales Coast Path for a coastal walk.

We offer basic off-grid camping with spectacular views! Come and enjoy the tranquility of Snowdonia and camp in our rolling fields. Set up on one of our non-electric grass camping pitches and enjoy sunrise and sunset over the surrounding mountains, with only the birds and local wildlife for company!

Basic farm campsite with sea views
The site is clean, quiet and was freshly mowed! Emma and Ed were lovely and catered to all our needs (firepits, wood, fridge space etc) Also gave tips on places to check out which were cool. Would recommend a visit to this site 👌🏾

Basic farm campsite with sea views
Emma keeps the campsite facilities very clean, and she rents out equipment such as a campfire stove and wood at very reasonable prices. As a team, they are all very friendly. My group of 6 all agreed it was one of the best campsites they had been to, as Emma was so thoughtful.

Looking for something to do over the weekend? How about a camping trip to South Snowdonia?! We have wonderful beaches within a short distance of our campsite. There are also a couple of public footpaths that run close to our campsite that will lead you to spectacular viewpoints. We are a basic campsite with 20 well spaced pitches, adjacent to our working farm in south Snowdonia. What3words location: ///clumped.spearhead.comical.
Nearby attractions

Nant Madyn Camping is within Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) so there’s plenty of outdoor activity of all sorts within reach of here. There are footpaths straight from site into the surrounding countryside and the Wales Coast Path is just one mile from site. The Dolgoch Falls walk, six miles from site, is another good place for a walk as is the 300-metre peak of Bird Rock (two miles away). The car park for walks up Cader Idris, is about nine miles from site. For a more of a restful way to see the national park, you can ride the  Talyllyn Railway. There’s a station in Tywyn (five miles from site) which is also where you’ll find five miles of sand and seaside fun. There are closer, wilder beaches which host Emma can direct you to and there’s also Aberdyfi, less than 10 miles south of here.

Food and drink

Nant Madyn Camping is in a rural area with no shop or pub within easy walking distance. The Jones family keep a few dried goods in reception but for more than that, you’ll need to head into Tywyn where there are some small independent shops and a couple of grocery stores. The closest place for a meal out is The Peniarth Arms which offers good-value food. Alternatively, head into Tywyn for fish and chip shops, takeaways, restaurants and pubs or to Aberdyfi where there are plenty of options.
