A small, sustainable farm site with epic sea views, set in the foothills of Snowdonia.

Mountains on one side and the sea on the other, Henbant Permaculture Farm will surely impart on you the same love of the natural world its owners have. Eight camping spots sit in a spacious meadow in North Wales, where visitors can gather their own firewood, choose their own eggs from the farm’s chickens, and pick their own veg from its vegetable patch when available. Henbant is all about promoting a world where we can work with nature to create a healthy, regenerative ecosystem, and its unique ‘nearly wild’ campsite lets you experience this first-hand.

Don’t expect your regular, run-of-the-mill, mown-grass-and-flat-ground campsite here. From the mixture of farm and wildland it’s located in, to the adjacent woodland complete with a small lake you can swim in (or boat in, if it’s a little too weedy), this is a true back-to-nature getaway. Farm owners Matt and Jenny are on a mission with Henbant, aiming to prove that a small farm such as theirs can produce food, build biodiversity, turn a profit, while also being enjoyable to manage. As such, what you can expect is regenerative food sold from its on-site farm shop, land deliberately kept untamed with roaming animals, and a couple of hosts who are extremely passionate about this land and what it can accomplish.

The pitches are spaced apart for your privacy, including individual ones for small groups, wind-sheltered campervan spots landscaped into the hillside, and a large group pitch ideal for family gatherings. Regardless of where you plant your tent, you’ll be treated to some stunning views of both the Clynnog Fawr countryside and the Irish Sea. The sunsets are incredible. Even the compost loo has superb views, one of a number of comfortable amenities that also includes the converted cow shed – a communal cooking and socialising space. And if you want to get closer to that sea view, you’re only a 10-minute drive from the quiet and remote Aberdesach beach; you’ll come to understand why Matt and Jenny love this place.

Great camp site
We just stayed the one night but could definitely stay longer. Brilliant pitches, each with a fire pit, wood can be purchased. You really feel out of the way of others and not too difficult to get to (wheelbarrows are provided to help). Views are spectacular. Lots to do, we didn’t scratch the surface. Also a farm shop and a large barn where you can go if the weather is not that good. We loved it and will be back ❤️

1x regular camping pitch
I had an overnight adventure at Henbant. Tucked away on the hillside between gorse bushes and trees. I really enjoyed the seclusion. Just myself, my little doggy, a campfire and a few beers. There are plenty of signs to point you in the direction of things ie toilets, shop and SAUNA👍 You won't find bowling green style pitches, it's rustic and wild with a friendly warm welcome and very "back to nature". I will be returning 👍👍

Secluded and beautiful
As a whole family (and dog) we really enjoyed our time camping here. How secluded it was, you always had your own space but it was nice to have a chat with other like minded campers. After a wet start to the week, the barn was an added bonus and gave us some shelter and dry family time! And when the rain lifted we sat out, looked up at the night sky and were treated to a show of shooting stars, even being able to see the Milky Way with the pretty much zero light pollution. The shop was great, the animals and the kids playground. Everything was used to the best of its ability and you could see the love and care that had gone into everything. We would love to return here again and have already recommended it.

Large Group Camp Spot
Wonderful Camping
Had a wonderful time staying at Henbant. We camped in the group camp area and we felt like we were wild camping as we didn’t have anyone near to us. The views are spectacular and the facilities if needed are amazing. You’re made very welcome by everyone who works there, it felt like home for me and my kids, with lovely farm dogs and cats free to roam around and a lovely community feel. Would definitely recommend this. The wood fired sauna was nourishing and the market garden is enviable. Looking forward to staying here again..

Welcome to Henbant Permaculture Farm, Camp and Rewilding Project. Henbant has meadows, pasture, woodland, lakes, fairies and stunning views of both sea and mountain. We have a truly stunning, slightly wild campsite. We try and blend a productive farm that is a model of the future, a beautiful campsite that has a slightly wild, get lost, explore and adventurous feeling. Whilst at the same time we have a wood fired sauna, hammocks in the woods, a boat on the lake, a simple farm shop, posh coffee machine and hot showers... but all in a slightly not pushed on you, explore it and come on the Henbant journey with us kind of way. We want you to get lost in our woods, chat to our chickens, light a fire, pick your own salad and feel the sun (and sometimes rain) on your face. We use Permaculture, Holistic Management and Agro-Ecological methods to grow veg, meat and eggs, but on a small and regenerative human scale that provides food and fuel for our home, our visitors and the local community. As well as being productive, Henbant is a place where people can come and slow down for a while, to think about what matters in the world and what the world needs us to give back. Come visit us, grow with us, stay with us, learn with us, eat with us...

You're only a 10-minute drive (or, if you're feeling fit, a 40-minute walk) from Aberdesach beach, a pebble beach that occasionally sees porpoises and seals swimming close to the shore. The massive Snowdonia National Park is right next to the site, with Mount Snowdon only a 30-minute drive away. If you don't fancy one of the multiple hiking routes, take the Snowdon Mountain Railway to reach its summit, which offers unforgettable views across the valleys and the Snowdonia mountain range. Zip World is near Snowdonia, which provides a bunch of forest adventures for the family. Take on the Fforest Coaster, the UK's only alpine rollercoaster that's also suitable for kids, while daredevils can zipline through the treetops. Or if you're in the mood for some history, the county town of Caernarfon is home to Wales' most famous castle, known as one of the Middles Ages' greatest buildings with a unique location overlooking the quay.

Food and drink

The appropriately named Coffee Shop is a little under 15 minutes' drive away, positioned right along the coast of Dinas Dinlle beach. You can stop here for your breakfast, lunch, or evening meals, and they also serve afternoon cream tea. The Surfer is a popular chippy that's located along this same road, too. The Goat Inn is a great local country pub, with traditional pub food served all week – along with some tasty but unexpected additions such as 'torpedo prawns' – and a great Sunday lunch. It also has a spacious outdoor seating area. Slightly further afield, Caernarfon has a bunch of pubs and restaurants, including the popular Harbour Table Table – make sure to book in advance (01286 662462)! With views directly out onto the harbour, it's clear why this one gets so busy, and it's also a good spot to take the kids thanks to its three-course meal deal.
