Shetland ponies and llamas will be your neighbours at Glan Morfa Farm. Countryside and sea will be in your view. This is, as it sounds, rather an idyllic place to stay on Anglesey. It’s a smallholding of four acres in the island’s south west, midway between the Menai Strait and Rhosneigr. It’s separated from a sandy beach only by a couple of miles of country road and a couple more of forest. Accommodation is in a log cabin or one of two shepherd’s huts that sit neatly among paddocks and orchards looking west towards salt marshes, the sea, and the setting sun.
The cabin, Swallows Rest, has the best view and sleeps up to four in two bedrooms while the shepherd’s huts, Sycamore Hideaway and Elderflower Retreat, each sleep two. The way they’ve been christened gives you a hint at the kind of stay you can expect: relaxing and surrounded by nature. Bees buzz in the orchard, red squirrels dart about in the nearby Niwbwrch Forest, and the birdlife is impressive. Each accommodation has plenty of space and is well set up with an en suite shower, loo and a basic kitchenette. In fact, the cabin’s kitchen is more than basic, making it a good choice for people who like to cook and those with kids and routines.
Whichever you opt for; beds are made, towels provided and lots of information on the area is on hand. That’s thanks to hosts, Sarah and Andy, who moved here a few years ago and whose love for the place is evident. Their sister business is hiring electric bikes, which are rented to glamping guests with a discount. They make a fantastic way to get to the nearest beach at Llanddwyn and to some of the other attractions close by. Those include Anglesey Transport Museum, Model Village and Sea Zoo. All are within five miles. Menai Bridge, Beaumaris Castle and the seaside resort of Rhosneigr, are all a little bit further and might warrant a trip in the car. If you do that, the whole of Anglesey is yours to discover as nowhere on this North Welsh island is more than an hour’s drive from Glan Morfa Farm.
