Glamping with views on a smallholding in south-west Anglesey

Shetland ponies and llamas will be your neighbours at Glan Morfa Farm. Countryside and sea will be in your view. This is, as it sounds, rather an idyllic place to stay on Anglesey. It’s a smallholding of four acres in the island’s south west, midway between the Menai Strait and Rhosneigr. It’s separated from a sandy beach only by a couple of miles of country road and a couple more of forest. Accommodation is in a log cabin or one of two shepherd’s huts that sit neatly among paddocks and orchards looking west towards salt marshes, the sea, and the setting sun.

The cabin, Swallows Rest, has the best view and sleeps up to four in two bedrooms while the shepherd’s huts, Sycamore Hideaway and Elderflower Retreat, each sleep two. The way they’ve been christened gives you a hint at the kind of stay you can expect: relaxing and surrounded by nature. Bees buzz in the orchard, red squirrels dart about in the nearby Niwbwrch Forest, and the birdlife is impressive. Each accommodation has plenty of space and is well set up with an en suite shower, loo and a basic kitchenette. In fact, the cabin’s kitchen is more than basic, making it a good choice for people who like to cook and those with kids and routines.

Whichever you opt for; beds are made, towels provided and lots of information on the area is on hand. That’s thanks to hosts, Sarah and Andy, who moved here a few years ago and whose love for the place is evident. Their sister business is hiring electric bikes, which are rented to glamping guests with a discount. They make a fantastic way to get to the nearest beach at Llanddwyn and to some of the other attractions close by. Those include Anglesey Transport Museum, Model Village and Sea Zoo. All are within five miles. Menai Bridge, Beaumaris Castle and the seaside resort of Rhosneigr, are all a little bit further and might warrant a trip in the car. If you do that, the whole of Anglesey is yours to discover as nowhere on this North Welsh island is more than an hour’s drive from Glan Morfa Farm.

Sycamore Hideaway
Glamping in Shephards hut
We absolutely love the shepherds hut! It was clean and well presented. Information file and leaflets available to help find things to do. Everything we needed to be comfortable including welcome hamper which was a lovely touch. Greeted by the owner on arrival. Good location for travelling around the island. Would definitely recommend

The farm has acres of land to explore and is surrounded by hedgerows and trees with magnificent views over the Malltreath estuary. Walk through the Orchard and say hello to the bees on your way to greet the friendly llamas and Shetland ponies. Here you will find the ideal getaway and glamping accommodation, nestled sympathetically in the landscape. Enjoy the peace and relaxing surrounding. A bird spotters delight spot the swallows and kites and when the sun goes down it’s a star gazers treat as the area is known for its dark skies. Located close to many lovely beaches and tourist attractions, there are so many places to visit and discover on the beautiful island of Anglesey.
Nearby attractions

Glan Morfa Farm is in Llangaffo, close to Niwbwrch (Newborough, two miles) and Niwbwrch Forest which is home to red squirrels and leads all the way to the shore at Llandwyn Beach (just over four miles). The tidal Llandwyn Island, at the end of the beach, is a scenic place for a walk too. Your hosts offer electric bike hire which makes getting around this part of the island easy, even without a car. Other beaches nearby include Malltraeth (five miles), Aberffawr (eight miles) and Rhosneigr (12 miles) which offers watersports and lots of facilities. Tacla Taid, the Anglesey Transport Museum, is less than two miles from the farm, Anglesey Model Village is three miles away and Anglesey Sea Zoo is just under five miles. Next door is Halen Môn, the sea salt producers, who have a shop and offer tours and seaweed baths in the summer. The National Trust property Plas Newydd is just a little further, overlooking the Menai Strait, which separates Anglesey from mainland North Wales. The historic gardens of Plas Cadnant are eight miles away and Beaumaris Castle is 12 miles from site.

Food and drink

Glan Morfa Farm is less than a mile from the centre of Llangaffo village where there’s a village shop and there’s another in Niwbwrch (two miles). There’s a cafe at Tacla Taid, the Anglesey Transport Museum, less than two miles down the road, which your hosts recommend. In fact, they offer a few suggestions for places to eat and drink in their welcome pack, many of which are in Rhosneigr (12 miles) where there’s plenty to choose from. The Oyster Catcher, which overlooks the dunes, is a good one as is the nautically-themed Sandy Mount House. Menai Bridge (10 miles) also has a good selection of places to eat including The Victoria and The Gazelle Hotels, which both have lovely views over the Menai Strait. The Freckled Angel offers tapas in Menai Bridge too.
