Stylishly converted, shipping-container accommodation just metres from the beach

As seen on Channel 4's Best British Beach Huts.

Book by the cabin or book the whole place. We offer discounts for small groups and stays of 7 days or more.

Our unique collection of glamping cabins are located just metres from the coast. These smart, up-cycled shipping containers have been clad in weathered Larch boards and shaded by canvas canopies – making the accommodation here a maritime masterpiece! Stacked together like giant lego, our shipping containers are in two storeys: on the very top are three cabins – each sleeping four people in bunk beds and available to book separately or all together – while below, the compartments contain a well-equipped communal kitchen and dining area, and a cosy sitting room. Beyond, extends a wide, open deck with up-cycled pallet furniture and boxes housing body-boards and rock-pooling nets for the beach.

Together,  the cabins are known as the Ty Cwch Boathouse and, with its sail-like canopy shading the deck, and round porthole windows it certainly has a nautical feel. If you’re bringing your own kayak or fishing equipment you can actually use it as a bit of a boathouse, too, storing your things securely while you stay. You can go from steeping your coffee to launching your kayak in a matter of minutes. We look forward to welcoming you to Ty Cwch!

We stayed at the Ty Cwch Boathouse for a couple of nights during the Easter Holidays. The communal areas are spacious and clean, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. My 2 boys particularly enjoyed the hammock, while I loved being able to hear the sea while I enjoyed a coffee. The bedroom pod was warm and cosy, and the mattresses in the bunk beds were incredibly comfy...I slept like a log! The Boathouse is only a couple of minutes walk from the sea, and the coastal path. We walked to New Quay, and the views were amazing throughout. There is also the option of getting the bus back if needed ;-) We visited as a family of 4, with no other people staying at the Boathouse due to COVID restrictions, but think it would be a fantastic place to stay with friends and/or family and will definitely be back.

The location is absolutely perfect - less than one minute stroll to the beach for seal spotting or access to the coast path. It truly is an idyllic spot. And the Beach House is equally perfect. Well kitted out with everything you could possibly need and so much more, including warm outside showers, and don't be put off by bunk beds, they are super comfy. We will definitely return, I suspect regularly!

ty Cwch Cabin 1
myself and 9 friends stayed the weekend (17th may). The area is fantastic with the beach close by and a stream. There is a cafe near the beach selling coffee, panninis etc.The pod itself is ideal for large groups with a large outside area that can be opened up to admire the surroundings .Everything you need is supplied with lovely little touches like books, fishing nets, board games etc.The kitchen is very well equipt with lots of plates cutlery etc There is a phone number for a mini bus/taxi service and this service is great-very reliable. If you would like to walk to Newquay along the coastal path, this takes approx 1.30 hrs but wouldnt recommend for young children as quite near the edge in some parts, also quite a few wild ponies ! There is also a seal that visits the bay regularly. Anything you need to know-ask a local ! They are more than happy to help and recommend places to eat etc We are already booking to return later this year and cannot wait

We have just returned from a long weekend here with two other families. Fantastic location, really quirky accommodation right on the coastal path and only a stones throw from the sea. I highly recommend it

We were a big group, taking over the whole place with overspill in camper vans and B&B using the Boathouse during the day. Ty Cwch took everything we threw at it and gave back memories, comfort and fun. Being quite early in the year, the social area needed the blankets but the pods were deliciously warm and comfortable. The kitchen and dining areas work really well. We kayaked and walked and danced and really enjoyed ourselves. The wifi worked superbly across the site. Highly recommended.

Extraordinary house made of sea containers with everything you could possibly want, from wifi to outdoor hammocks. Stunning location metres from a small beach and on the coastal path. Magical.

Nearby attractions

Ty Cwch Boathouse is just metres from the beach so, unsurprisingly, the common thing to do here is grab a wetsuit, board or sea kayak and wander down to the waterfront (you're welcome to bring your own equipment and store it in the boat house). Be sure to check out the restored lime kiln that marks the back of the beach, too – supposedly popular with smugglers in years past.  There's a good café and ample space for launching kayaks. Cwmtydu is known for its hidden seclusion. If you want to organise some activities contact our partner Rhydian Wilson at ICY UK Ltd or for more amenities and to organise  boat hire, head north to nearby New Quay (4 miles). The section of the Ceredigion Coast Path from just outside Ty Cwch Boathouse is sublime. From the south, it drops down into Cwytydu by descending along the valley side before climbing out of the bay again towards New Quay. In either direction it's a pleasant 4-mile walk to the nearest village (and pub). The beach and coves along the coast by Cwmtydu are a particularly popular place for seals to rear their pups, so keep your eye out (and give them plenty of space), while, further out, dolphins can sometimes be spotted on a clear day – the bay is home to the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe.

Food and drink

About 10 metres away is a small café – Melyn y Gors (01545 560321) – that serves excellent light bites and homemade ice-cream you can eat down on the beach. Open all year, their carrot cake is particularly recommended. Otherwise, until the Crown reopens at Easter, (2 miles away at the top of the valley), the nearest pubs are all 4 miles away in Llangrannog (by road or coastal path) or New Quay (a touch under 4 miles by the coastal path). The latter has more options.
