40 acres hosted by Forrest C.
I inherited this land from my great uncle who was a traditional Ute Indian elder. Being a very spiritual man, this land is very tranquil and has a powerful healing quality to it. There is a nice shady camp area in a grove of beautiful trees with a majestic view of the southern slope of the Uintah Mountains. I have named it Uinta Springs Ranch as it has a lot of springs and a marshy valley. I presently have seven horses. One is broke to ride. Of the others, three are healers or used in equine therapy. I simply call it, "Horse Medicine."   Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in a tree grove with a open pit fire and camp table with a beautiful view of the Uintah Mountains. We are 2 1/2 hours east of Salt Lake City, in northeastern Utah, referred to as Uintah Basin. If traveling east, at I-80 past Park City, exit onto Hwy 40 which connects Salt Lake City to Denver.  After arriving in Roosevelt, continue for approximately 5 miles. At the traffic signal light, turn north on Whiterocks Highway and go for another 3 1/2 miles. I am at the 3rd mailbox on the right. If traveling west, continue on Hwy 40 from Vernal for approx. 26 miles to traffic signal light and take right turn onto Whiterocks Highway, follow instructions to the ranch above. It has variable terrain - high desert, grassland, and marshland.

Beautiful Sacred Land
What a beautiful piece of sacred land! Forrest was very responsive and kind. The camping spot is across the way from the main house in a shady tree grove with a couple tables, chairs and well maintained Porto-potty. Sits right next to a spacious horse ranch with very gentle, loving and playful horses. I love horses and Forrest allowed me to go in their grazing area to meet them. It was magical. Spent a lot of time with them and I loved it. There were 6 horses when I went and I was able to pet them and love them all up quite a bit. The land itself felt very peaceful and I felt very nourished but our overnight stay on this land. Highly recommend coming here to camp. I definitely want to come back when I’m back in the area. Thank you Forrest!

Uinta Springs Ranch
The location was picturesque! Our family loved seeing the horses and petting them and only wish we’d had more time to spend with them in the field. The sunsets were gorgeous too. And while we were pretty close to the owners property we still felt like we had enough privacy.

Uinta Springs Ranch
Beautiful site, with an amazing view. Plenty of shade and clean toilet, an amazing spot for stargazing by the campfire.

Uinta Springs Ranch
It’s a beautiful spot to enjoy the shade and views! Rustic, but our needs were met and it was clean and quiet! Our host met us and answered questions, then went about his chores and left us to chill! We were there for a granddaughter softball tournament in Roosevelt, and like the nearby, yet relaxing location. Thanks, Forrest!

Uinta Springs Ranch
First the good things: there was water available via a spigot and garden hose, also the tent site was level, no rocks, and had about 80% grass coverage. The tent site had some shade from short , brush like trees. . Now the negatives: -this is NOT a campground contrary to the name of the place “Uinta Springs Campground’, I saw neither springs nor a campground,, what it is , is a private residence with a big yard, and the ‘camp’ area is at the edge of the yard next to a horse pasture fence. Also I had trouble using the directions to find the place,, I thought it was unusual that the next door neighbor, 100 yards away, had no idea where ‘Uinta Springs campground’ was and never heard of it. - a ‘ports-potty’ was available. I used it once and was stung by one of the wasps inside. The wasp nest is inside the porta-potty , a small blue box at waist level just inside the door has the wasp nest with what looked like 20 wasps - the ‘host’ (possibly owner of the residence) said upon my arrival ’Oh your early’,, it was about 4:30pm, and then ‘I am getting ready to start a ceremony’. So immediately I felt like I was intruding. The ceremony appeared to me to be a Native American sweat lodge ceremony. A fire for heating rocks and sweat-lodge were next to the area of my camp,,,, I felt like an intruder and very uncomfortable for the two or three hours the ceremony was held. I tried hard to not disturb the ceremony. I was thankful for a place to put my tent ,,, but it was an uncomfortable situation due to being so near the ‘ceremony’. The physical condition of the camp warrants a rating of 2 stars out of 5. I won’t be going back. I will not recommend this ‘Campround’ to anyone.

Great sunsets at Uinta Springs ranc
Very nice spot in the grove. As some other reviewers have noted, it is not back country isolation but it was certainly off the main roads enough to be quiet and comfortable. Couple of large cast tables and set of swivel chairs were great for having dinner and keeping your tent set up and breakdown organized. Forrest was very nice and helpful. Definitely follow his written directions to camp. The hipcamp site has a dropped pin that definitely is not correct.
