Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
No need to reserve ahead of time! Camp spots are not marked but are obvious, choose site when you arrive, refer to map. Please respect No Trespassing signs! Two (2) miles north of Mexican Hat, UT on Hwy 163, turn East, find your spot! Bigger Rigs: Keep to the right at the 'Y' as the road to the San Juan River is steep and a little bumpy! Next to the Bears Ears National Monument, between Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley along the San Juan River is Mexican Hat where you can camp on private property...as this is NOT on the Navajo Reservation, alcohol is allowed. So many things to see! Goosenecks State Park, Natural Bridges, Moki Dugway, Cedar Mesa! Camp on this private estate that was founded in the 1890's by gold and oil prospectors and where John Wayne later crossed the river in several western movies! The night skies are unbeatable as is the quiet solitude that is sadly disappearing in other areas. Mexican Hat Rock and this portion of the San Juan River are accessible only through this estate that is open for your enjoyment, however, if you wish to camp we now ask for a small fee so we can keep it clean, maintain roads and continue our conservation efforts so all can enjoy it forever! Portable toilets are required!!! And please pick up after yourself, dogs and horses. Pack it in, pack it out. Respect your fellow campers and stay on obvious trails and roads, do know that part of this property is marked as 'No Trespassing', please respect signage. No fee is required for day trips to 'The Hat'.Camp on this private estate that was founded in the 1890's by gold and oil prospectors and where John Wayne later crossed the river in several western movies! Mexican Hat Rocks
Super campsite!
Quiet, huge place. We were alone that night. Only the Stars and my family. Mexican Hat Rock close enough to touch!

Mexican Hat Rocks
Nice spot to boondock
Nice spot to spend the night. I pulled in in the dark and left early morning.. so didn't get to enjoy the views. But I felt safe there and appreciated having a reserved place to stay. I slept in my 4 Runner while traveling to pick up an RV.

Business advice for the owner.
The site overall is kinda cool, but the camp sites were not in fact easy to find. Not really a big deal. Biggest drawback is the $24 to camp after taxes seems abit steep, especially when the Valley of the Gods BLM is a few miles away any you can camp all over for free. I paid before I saw the place and although it was a nice morning, I won't be doing it again. I'll go for the free sites and simply drive into mexican hat for the day use if I'm so inclined. Some advice for the owners is mark down the price to something more reasonable like $5. You'd probably get more business and therfore make more money in the long run. Also you should ditch this annoying site that I had to create this stupid account for and put in the pink slip system that the Park service uses.

We had a beautiful view of the Mexican hat rock with the super moon next to it. Dark quiet. Easy road to get down. Perfect camping.

Wonderful!
Favorite place to camp! The exploration of the stars is splendid. And the place is full of surprises (river, off road for 4x4, overlook).
