The lake was intended to serve primarily as a reservoir for the city of San Antonio, but it had the secondary effect of transforming the economy of Comal County. Even before the lake was filled, construction had begun on dozens of new subdivisions along the 60-mile lakefront and in the hills around it. By the mid-1980s, more than 80 new neighborhoods had been built, and the little ranching communities of Sattler and Startzville had become thriving commercial centers serving tourists from nearby Austin and San Antonio. The full-time population of the lake area was estimated at 12-16,000, and many thousands more were in the area on weekends.

A pleasant stay
6 m travel trailer ·
A wonderful, scenic out of the way RV campground but easily accessible from the main road. Nice and quiet. Blake the host met us upon arrival and was very helpful for settling us in. Amenities were easily accessible and both 30 and 50 amp outlet were present as well as grey and blackwater discharge systems. Also very clean and cozy

The resort was small and charming. The host was very nice and accommodating. Before we arrived he sent us a message suggesting another site for our travel trailer that better suited us and our 2 small dogs, he even brought them each a soft squeaky toy. The RV sites were well spaced and there were also small casitas at this resort. I felt welcomed and safe here

Camping at the Hideaway Resort!
Tent · Group trip ·
Tent camping is great here! You have electric hook-ups and the bathroom and shower are close by! You could even have an RV here. There is plenty of space and a grill is included. Highly Recommend! There are some really nice views of the surrounding canyon areas and there are plenty of outdoor seating areas to enjoy!
