100% of recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp felt private.
Private primitive campsite on North White Oak Creek. Bring your fishing poles and hiking boots! This site is right in the creek with a raised area to set up a tent and a lower area on the bank.
There is a small fire ring with a tripod for cooking, a few cooking utensils, roasting sticks and three folding chairs for your use. Picnic table was available but was dept down stream a few months ago!!!
Bathroom is a pop up shower tent with a bedside chair and bucket. I will provide disposable gel bags I just tried them sealed, placed in garbage bag and deposited in receptacle at the end of the trail upon check out.
Dry firewood is available for purchase. There is plenty of small branches around for kindling. Do not cut down any live trees. Do not use firewood from the small cabin area.
At night enjoy the sounds of passing coyotes and the watch the flashing lights of the of lightening bugs fluttering around. You may even get lucky and see glow worms and glowing mushrooms in the area certain times of the year. There is also an area where hundreds of hummingbirds abound! They will hover in front of your face as you pass by, this also depends on the season and when the flowers in the marsh are blooming.
The old O&W Trail crosses my property. For those who are true explorers you can follow the trail East into Big South Fork. This part of the park is unmaintained so a lot of tree dodging and climbing small rock slides may be required. This section of the trail is rarely traveled so chances of seeing a human is slim and wildlife is great. Please stay on the trail until entering the park as it is private property on both sides of the trail.
Swimming is at your own risk. There are branches under the water that cannot be seen but my girls swim there almost daily during the summer. You are free to wander the property just be aware of your surroundings. I do have snakes, spiders, ticks, mountain lion, coyotes, bobcat, wild hog, beaver, otters, mink and a momma bear with cubs in the area.
Driving to the parking area for the campsite is a narrow, steep, rutted and can be muddy trail thru the woods. Before booking please know it is recommended to have a vehicle with clearance and 4 wheel drive. A mustang will NOT make it!!! I do have a 4x4 to transport if needed providing you pitch in for gas cause she does drink a lot, about $10 with each time she goes down there, or you are welcome to park at the top and hike down. I have a wagon to haul gear. Once at the parking area there is a short easy walk thru the woods to the campsite. Driving to the campsite is not possible. I try to keep it as natural as possible.Seclusion and tranquillity! Pitch your tent along the bank of beautiful North White Oak creek at Moonlight Ridge. Enjoy the seclusion and peacefulness you have been looking for. This is NOT glamping! This is NOT car friendly!!! Recommend 4 wheel drive and vehicle with clearance! The road down is narrow, steep and does get muddy at the bottom. I can provide transport for a fee for gas in the gasaholic, she drinks $10 worth each time she goes down there! Parking is at a small cabin near the trail to the creek. There is a wagon to haul your gear the short walk thru the woods, follow orange marks on the trees.
There is dangerous wildlife, coyotes, wild hogs, bobcat, mountain lion, bear, venomous snakes mosquitoes, spiders and ticks!
This is primitive. No electric or even solar. No potable water, bring your own! For bathroom, you get a bedside chair and 5 gallon bucket with disposable gel bags inside a shower tent. Bring your own tent or request one to be set up at extra charge. I do have a tripod grill over the fire pit, 3 folding chairs, few utensils and roasting sticks on site for your use.
During the day take a dip in the nice cool flowing water, kayak or hike the O&W trail that runs right through the property! Parts past my property line are grown up and require dodging trees and maneuvering washouts. Stay on the trail until inside the park as it is private property on both sides of the trail.
Visit what my daughter's call hummingbird paradise, it's an overgrown marshy area full of flowers that hundreds of hummingbirds love. They will flutter right in front of your face watching you when they are here. If you see an overgrown area full of orange flowers and hear the humming you will know you are there. Area is marshy and shoes will get wet.
At night enjoy the sounds of crickets, bullfrogs and passing coyotes. Look for the millions of lightening bugs, glow worms and glowing mushrooms (depending on the season).
Located near Jamestown and Big South Fork in the heart of Middle Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau. We are within 30 min to an hour driving distance to many state parks, Big South Fork, Burgess Falls, Fall Creek Falls, Historic Rugby, Rugby State Natural area, and many more surround the area.
As the host I live on site well away from the camp site on my little farm. My place is a work in progress so ignore the building materials. Guests are able to hand feed my fainting goats and chickens approved snacks. The dogs are working and take their jobs seriously so please do not approach or feed, they will be contained during your stay unless you request one to keep critters away. Just know she will be down there running the creek and barking if you do. She is dog and kid friendly but will get your dog to follow her wherever she goes. I will not turn the male lose, he loves kids but not visiting dog friendly (that is his job). You will have complete privacy unless you need me. I also have kayaks and a primitive cabin available.
