Rural glamping in a converted railway carriage, shepherd's hut, or bell tent in blissful Scotland

Muiredge sits on the edge of a moor that has been left wild for the past twenty years. In a bid to rejuvenate the natural beauty of the moor, the site combines all the comforts of luxury glamping with the real feeling of remoteness you get from wild camping. Surrounded by heather and wild blueberries and with views of the stunning Ochil Hills, you feel like you are deep in the undiscovered corners of the countryside while around an hour's drive away from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The six bell tents are all situated in the same field but with plenty of space around each. The railway carriage and shepherd’s hut also have lots of room between them, meaning you won’t have to worry about next-door campers blocking any of the stunning views of the rolling hills. The beauty of Muiredge’s wild setting is preserved by prioritising a green way of operating, from the solar-powered facilities to the toilets clad with live edge larch that once grew on the moor. The large shed onsite is a perfect meeting ground for when you do fancy meeting up with your campsite neighbours, or for if you want to book it out to make family celebrations even more special, with guests able to reserve exclusivity for 22 guests.

No matter which accommodation choice you go for, you can rest assured that your stay will include the same level of luxury in whichever place you pick. Each bell tent is fully furnished with a double bed and two fold-out beds and, outside, each sits on its own decking with a firepit to heat you up if you’re choosing to take your chances dining outside in the unpredictable Scottish summertime. The railway cabin and shepherd's hut also have their own ensuite toilets and shower rooms as well as all the cooking facilities you could need to refuel after a big day out exploring the Scottish scenery.

Muiredge is situated in central Perthshire just outside the town of Auchterarder. It’s a great base for discovering Perthshire but only around an hour’s drive from all the major tourist attractions and towns. With Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, whisky distilleries, and historic castles such as Stirling and Doune within a short drive, it makes for the perfect location from which to explore the heart of Scotland.

Beautiful setting for relaxing stay
A beautiful setting with views across the valley. Tents/huts were well spread out and private and we couldn’t hear other guests. Beds were very comfortable. A big barn to share games and food was just wonderful. Angus was extremely welcoming and the entire stay was relaxing and cathartic.

A fantastic well equipped campsite
We loved camping at Muiredge. The campsite is amazing - well equipped from crockery, cutlery, pans, books and games in The Barn to hot outdoor (under cover!) showers. The tents were well spaced out and the views across the rolling Perthshire hills were superb. We had a lovely walk along the fields to Gleneagles one day and along the banks of Loch Leven the next. The kids and dog loved it and so did we. We would highly recommend it.

Collie's Wobble
We had a lovely Easter weekend at Muiredge. We stayed in the Collie's Wobble tent, which slept four easily - there's a bed for the adults and two fold-out beds for the kids. Duvet/pillows/sheets/towels all provided. The tent has a toilet and shower attached, plus plenty of decking and a picnic bench along with a barbecue and fire pit. There's loads of spaces for kids to run about and the site felt very safe. The communal barn is excellent: there's a gas burner for cooking, fridge, microwave and plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc. There are also board games, books and darts, which was popular with our kids. It's handy for days out - we had fun trips to Perth Leisure Pool (though the Full Moon flume is best avoided if you're not a big thrill-seeker) and Crieff Hydro's Action Glen adventure playground. We ordered food from the Neighbourfood farmers' market which was delivered direct to Muiredge, and there's also a Co-op very nearby in Auchterarder. The owner is very helpful and friendly, and even thoughtfully provided his own wee boy for our younger daughter to play with :-) We'll definitely be back, a really lovely weekend.

Stayed here in October 21 and loved every minute. This location is beautiful with lovely view over the Scottish countryside and out towards the mountains, sunset is not to be missed! Plenty family activities and walks to be had in the surrounding area. Overall a lovely place to spend a few days relaxing!

Nestled between 800 acres of private woodland and wild heathered moor, the eco-friendly site comprises a converted railway carriage, a handcrafted shepherd’s hut and six furnished bell tents, all beautifully finished and complete with their own external shower pods and loo. Each sits on a private deck: the perfect place to sit by the fire pit with a sundowner and take in the stunning views over the Strathearn countryside. Whether you’re looking to explore the local area, reconnect with nature or simply relax with friends and family, Muiredge has space, peace and big skies in abundance: a true antidote to modern life. Little glampers will be kept happy exploring in the wood, paddling and fishing in the spring-fed burn or following on our home-made nature trail. Perfectly situated, Muiredge is just over an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow but with the expansive horizons and wildlife of a remote getaway. With highland Perthshire, beautiful lochs, historic castles, whisky distilleries, and some of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions all within a short drive, this is the ideal spot for friends and family to escape, explore and make memories. About Us Muiredge is part of the Strathallan Estate which has been in the Roberts Family since 1910. Angus is the fifth generation to grow up running wild in the fields and woods of this beautiful part of Scotland. For many years the Muir (Scottish for moor) was home to the Estate’s shepherd but sadly over the years fell into disrepair. Angus and his wife Cara had a dream to love the place back to life. It began with planting trees and hedgerows to encourage native species of ground nesting birds such as the curlew and oyster catcher; tending the overgrown heather, and repairing the old stone dykes and wooden fencing. The glamping idea began with a decade long plan to convert an old 1930s picnic hut but soon expanded as they realised that welcoming others to escape and reconnect with nature could help invest in the dream of returning Muiredge to its former wild glory. This is just the start. By staying with us, guests can help us build a sustainable future for Muiredge - either directly by planting a tree or sowing wild flowers - or simply by enjoying an off grid, eco-friendly break.
Nearby attractions

Muiredge is situated next to heather woodland that's ideal for ramblers embarking on countryside walks. Elsewhere, the historic Tullibardine Chapel (0131 668 8600) is a five-minute walk away from the site, culturally significant due to it being one of few Scottish churches that remained mostly in-tact following the Reformation of 1560. Gleneagles (01764 662231) is an impressive five-star luxury hotel with a range of bookable activities to enjoy, from golf on the staggering King's Course through to horse-riding, shooting, fishing, and a relaxing spa. if you have the little ones with you, be sure to check out the Blair Drummond Safari Park (01786 841456), a 25-minute drive from the site that's home to over 350 rare and exotic animals. Stirling Castle (01786 450000) is also a 25–30 minute drive away, providing an excellent family day out in one of Scotland's most important castle; having been the location of the crowning of several Scottish kings and queens.

Food and drink

Jon and Fernanda (01764 662442) is a mile away from the site, arguably the most popular fine dining restaurant in the small town of Auchterarder serving modern cuisine with a romantic atmosphere. Delivino (01764 660033) is around two miles away, a delicatessen that also specialises in wine. The Crieff Food Company is less than 10 miles away, with its food hall providing "nae bother suppers": such as cosy cottage pie, pork and mustard, and Mulay curry. The Kirkstyle Inn is around a 15-minute drive with a fully-stocked bar and food that leans towards the "richer things in life," as its owners would say. If you're looking to stay local, there's a weekly Neighbourfood market where you can indulge in local produce.
