*Dear Campers, due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be hosting during the 2024 season. Sharing our land with you and providing a space to create memories that will hopefully last a lifetime has been a great joy to us.
Thank you for spending time with us and, as always, happy camping. Sarah and Stein *
Camp Blackbird is a 28 acre property that runs along Beltzville State Park in Carbon County, PA. So besides the camp, there is an additional 3,002-acres of state park to explore. There are a total of 2 sites.
The land was vacant for decades and unfortunately used to dump household garbage during that time. We cleaned up the land, built a home and bat habitat. We, Sarah and Stein, always disliked renting a camp site somewhere and then ending up on top of people.
So it was our goal to make space on our land for campers like us that want to be surrounded by nature, not other camp sites.
A portion of the proceeds from your stay will be donated to bat habitat conservation and bat sanctuaries around the world.
We are grateful for the hundreds of campers that have stayed with us. Thank you to all of you that have left a clean site and not made unnecessary noise that would disturb the countless species that share the forest with us. Also, Thank You for patronizing local businesses while you are here.
We'll give you a map so you can see where to take a short walk to get to the lake.
There are miles of hiking trails a few minutes walk from your campsite.
Beltzville Lake is a great place for paddling. The boat launch is just a few minutes drive from Camp.
In addition to the beautiful immediate surroundings, we are centrally located near many exciting destinations. Year round activities at Blue Mountain Resort, adventure on The Appalachian Trail, fine dining, biking the rail trail and whitewater rafting in Jim Thorpe, all within a 25 minute drive.
The property is not suitable for parties or events.
The area is a QUIET ZONE. Ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. It is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for birding.
The hosts mission is to disturb wildlife and its habitats as little as possible.
VERY IMPORTANT - NO PARTIES or unregistered guests on the property. There are other campgrounds in the area that are great for people who want to party.
We welcome pets.
Please add your photos! Especially of your dog camping! Check out the 300+ photos past campers have added. So many of them are dogs camping it up.
We, the hosts, live on the property about 700 ft from the campsite. We try to have minimal interactions with the guests to ensure privacy and personal space but we're always reachable.
This is the second time me and my husband stayed in this campsite. We loved everything about it, the river is a short walk from the campground, portable bathroom is clean, plenty of firewood, enough drinking water and potable water to wash hands and dishes and whats more important it’s in the woods and secluded. Also, there is a general store near to run a quick errand. We kept it in our favorite list!
We had a blast getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and staying at this serene and beautiful campsite. Everything was conveniently set up for us and the water and electricity were worth the extra $$$ for us. We would DEFINITELY go back again and recommend it to others.
Camp Blackbird is so magical! The land is absolutely stunning, the campsite private, secluded and spacious with everything you need. You can tell lots of love went into setting up these sites and caring for the land. Lots of hiking and swimming and other activities nearby. One of the huge perks of camping on a bat sanctuary means way fewer mosquitoes! Would recommend and look forward to returning. Absolutely worth the cost
Have a Thule rooftop tent and stayed at Camp 2. Plenty of room to set up, very private site and an easy hike down to the park. Hosts were very responsive and overall a great experience. Stocked wood was dry and easy to burn. Water they supplied was great. Port o potty was clean. Ground is pretty flat but bring a set of wheel levelers to get it even. We’ll be back!
We've been camping in 29 states and this is hands down our favorite site so far! Campsite is wooded and secluded so we had no contact with other people. Site is very well maintained and includes a firepit, picnic bench, firewood rack, portapotty, and water on site. Portapotty was very clean. We were provided with unlimited firewood and drinking water. Hosts responded quickly to our request for more firewood. There is a great hiking trial (1.5 miles) that takes you into the State Park. We were able to hike and have lunch by the lake. You can also connect to a longer trial but we didnt explore that far. All around great experience.
