Book the yurt at Moulin des Gorges and you’ll have the top spot on a campsite in Creuse. This region of central France is a peaceful place for a holiday – or for a night or two as you head further north or south. And staying in the fully-furnished yurt makes things rather easy. It’s got proper beds which are made up for you, its own kitchen shack and a toilet and shower next door. Even towels are provided. It all means that you can eat, sleep and relax in comfort while still enjoying the outdoors and the campsite facilities – and those are not to be sniffed at.
Moulin des Forges occupies four acres on the site of a former mill. It has a swimming pool, fishing lake, pedalo, badminton and boules. And if the weather is too hot or too wet, there’s a games room as well, which adds pool and table football. Yurt guests share access to these with campers on the site’s six pitches and those staying in three gites on site. Overall, it’s a sociable site, made more so by friendly British owners, Christina and Colin.
They’ll welcome you to the site, make sure everything here is running smoothly and will point you to places to visit in the local area whether you’re looking for a meal out or a day trip. Those include paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming on local lakes like Lac d’Eguzon and visiting pretty villages like Gargilesse-Dampiere. But no one could blame you if you did nothing more than put your feet up right here at Moulin des Forges.
On its own island surround by peaceful running water our guests will be able to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of Moulin des Forges whilst staying in luxury. Our spacious 5m Yurt can accommodate 2-4 guests. (For comfort we recommend 2 adults or 2 adults and 2 children) Double bed, day bed and single bed can e used for your preferred configuration. Joined in May 2022Moulin des Forges is on the outskirts of the village of Moutier Malcard in Creuse. The closest town is Aigurande (eight miles). It’s a rural area with lots of countryside to explore and the region’s lakes are some of its biggest attractions. The closest with plenty of facilities is Lac d’Eguzon (20 miles). There’s a small beach and an outdoor activity centre where you can hire paddleboards, canoes and kayaks if you don’t have your own. To the south, the village of Crozant, near the confluence of two rivers occupies a scenic spot and the ruins of Fortresse de Crozant occupy a dramatic spot. North of the lake (but also still only about 20 miles from the campsite) Gargilesse-Dampierre is a very pretty village for a wander.
There’s a small honesty shop on site where you can buy basics and on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8.30am, Bruno’s Boulangerie van pays the campsite a visit offering fresh bread, pastries and more. There are also occasional visits from Rosewoods Fish and Chip vans. Ask your hosts if they’ll be on site during your stay. The closest shop otherwise is a mile down the road in the village, Moutier Malcard. You’ll also find a casual bistro/restaurant Le Marande there too. For more than that head into Aigurande (eight miles) where there’s a choice of eateries, cafes and shops – including supermarkets. And if you're spending time at Lac d'Eguzon, your hosts recommend La Gamelle bar, bistro and creperie on its shores.
