Bang in the wooded heartland of the Perigord, Huttopia’s Sarlat Les Perieres site is as well-situated as it is brilliantly equipped, occupying a beautiful woodland location just a 10-minute walk from the medieval market town of Sarlat. What's more, the site has been completely renovated in recent years, boasting a whole host of excellent facilities spread beneath the trees. The highlights include two heated (indoor and outdoor) swimming pools, a sauna, a brand-new play area for children and tennis, volleyball and petanque courts.
Accommodation at Huttopia’s Sarlat is varied too. Pitches for tents, campervans and caravans are large and relatively secluded, all with electricity and water, and there's also a selection of pre-erected safari-style tents, gypsy caravans and two kinds of mobile home. They're spread evenly around, with space to kick back and relax. The main lodge acts as a central convening space, with its own lounge area, café-restaurant and a small shop at reception.
Really you could spend a week here and barely leave the site, but with so much beautiful countryside on your doorstep that would be a pity. There's magnificent walking to be enjoyed on the footpaths of Perigord Noir and you can also canoe down the Dordogne and Vezere rivers – the various river beaches which line their banks are perfect for reclining after a spot of wild swimming. Some of the region's most spectacular castles and caves are just a short drive away, while Sarlat itself is the epitome of a handsome small French town, with a lively weekly market and any number of nice places to eat, drink and make merry.
Being a part of the Huttopia 'brand' does mean this is one of multiple campsites spread across the country but it still lacks that gaudy commercial feel you might worry about. For a full-service family campsite in the Dordogne region we think Huttopia Sarlat ticks almost every box.
