***We are temporarily closing the campground for land improvements. We feel it is unsafe to host any campers at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.*** Spend the night under the stars… On our quaint 12 acre river bottom tucked away behind the mountains. The campsite is on the edge of the New River, overlooking its clear waters and abundance of wildlife. Listen to the sounds of nature as you fish right off the bank. Enjoy tubing/kayaking/canoeing 5 miles to Zaloo’s or 4 miles to New River Outfitters or take a 1 mile “kid’s trip” from a secluded access to J E Gentry bridge. Our family-friendly site is an economical way to have fun and get in touch with nature. Please note that cell service is very limited and WiFi is not provided. Prolonged rainy conditions in the river bottom may get muddy, so please be prepared for your stay!

Spot #4 (Tent/Teardrop)
Shady and Secluded River Site
This was my second time staying at Dogwater campground ⛺️. Previously, I stayed at site #9. Site #4 had several advantages, such as the most privacy of any of the sites, several trees which provided not only shade, but great opportunity to hang two hammocks and closer proximity to the Porta-John. . We were very close to the river, which we could access by tying a rope to the picnic table and gently and carefully going down the riverbank into the New River, This site has room for a medium size tent on the left side. I suggest orienting your tent, so the doorway faces the campsite instead of the river to give yourself enough room to walk safely out of the tent. There also is space to the right of the picnic table for a small tent. We fished in the river and caught two fish and also tied our tubes around big boulders which kept them stationary allowing us to enjoy the sun along with the gentle motion of the river for hours . You will see people tubing or kayaking down the river frequently. This campground gives you beautiful scenery, and a sense of being in the wilderness. The sounds of the river are so relaxing . One of the best parts of staying at this campground is the hosts. Both times we’ve stayed here they come by and say hello. This time we got to find out about the history of the land and a little background of the hosts. That makes all the difference in the world.

Spot #9 (Tent/Rooftop/Van)
Great stay on the New River
We stayed at site #9 for the weekend and enjoyed our stay. The views of the new river were amazing and we loved fishing and just hanging in the river. There’s a tree on the site that has great shade, only downside is it’s a bit of a trek to the toilet which the hosts warn about, it was not problem for us. Sites #4 and #1 have easy river access, #1 is open at all times so your not walking through someone’s campsite. The porta potty on site was cleaned by a service on Saturday late morning. Only criticism was the grass was a bit long and the fire ring was overgrown. Overall a good stay and we would return.

Spot #6 (Tent/Rooftop/Van)
A grassy spot with a picnic table and fire ring next to a clear, flowing river. Wildflowers, butterflies, and hummingbirds at the campsite, and songbirds across the river. Thick fog in the mornings to cool you off. No shade at campsite #6, so bring your own.

Spot #4 (Tent/Teardrop)
Idyllic spot right by the river, with lots of shade and great trees for hammocking. The one mile float from the site down to the bridge was the perfect amount of adventure for my young kids who were in their own boat. Beautiful bird watching and stargazing - caught some of the Perseids and enjoyed waking up in a blanket of fog. Hosts were friendly and brought by a big bundle of firewood and kindling when we arrived. We’ll be back!
