All to yourself
96% of recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp felt private.
A truly special property - one of the last of its kind on Hatteras Island. Wild wooded acreage spills down a shallow hill to reveal its very own private sandy soundfront beach. Total seclusion...Sunsets to die for...What more could you ask for? All centrally located in the middle of Hatteras Island within walking distance to several restaurants, ice-cream, surf shops, etc...This campsite is one of the last undeveloped wooded areas left in the villages of Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Hatteras Island. Set yourself up, nestled in the live oak trees that open onto a private sandy soundfront beach. You will have Hip Kite Camp all to yourself - no other campers allowed on the entire half-acre property. Relax and enjoy amazing sunsets over the Pamlico Sound after a good day of surfing or kiteboarding - launching right from the sandy sound beach at your camp. The property is walking distance to beautiful uncrowded beaches and the Atlantic Ocean with some of the best surfing on the east coast as well as fishing, birding, etc.... Just a short walk to Dairy Queen (3 min), grab some açaí bowls and coffee at Hatteras Bowls, learn to kite surf at Real Kiteboarding, have breakfast at Ocean Atlantic Cafe , visit Hatteras Sail Shop, Hatteras Surf Shop, etc... Bring bikes and you can leave your vehicle parked - you won’t need it for the rest of your stay. Kayaks available (use caution, not responsible, Pamlico sound waters can be very windy.)

Convenient location!

Great spot to come and go! A quiet site near the road but quite secluded! Lots of trees and shrubs to create privacy.

We had a great time at Hip Kite Camp! It’s just as described. There were tiki torches available which was nice since camp fires are not allowed - it also helped with the mosquitos - but still bring your bug spray. The access to the sound was great and it was so fun to watch the kite surfers each day. We’ve previously stayed at Frisco Campground and this will now be our go to spot when visiting Hatteras. Our dog loved this site compared to a crowded campground and so did we!

Scooter was great, the view out into the sound was incredible, and we had a lot of privacy tucked into the oaks and pines at this flat camp site. You’re situated pretty close to highway 12, but the road noise is similar to what you’d expect at the big campgrounds on the island - but here you have a lot of space and water access to yourself. Site was clean and it’s really nice to be able to walk to breakfast, lunch, or dinner up and down the island. Check out Mirro’s, and Waves Grocery and Deli; a couple great local spot. Waterman’s Bar and Grill (at Real Outdoors) has an amazing sunset view, excellent food, and great service. Only 30 minutes from Cape Hatteras, this spot is in a great location to explore the whole island. Thanks Scooter! Your site is one of a kind.

This is my second time visiting this site. I took my 14ft camper and it fit perfectly. I love that there is a private area on the water! Beautiful sunset and stars!

Perfect minimalist site. We needed a last minute layover and we found Scoote’s place. Easy to find and exactly what we expected. The sunset on the water was gorgeous as was sunrise the next morning. Wish we had more time as it would have been an excellent kayak/canoe spot.

Needs improvement…just a hole in the scrub brush…a few hours of landscaping are desperately needed
