My property has supported families for several generations. From a small farm with typical livestock and vegetable gardens to a tree seedling nursery to cattle grazing in the fields, it has served its owners well. During the 1940's and early '50's, the Argura Post Office was located on the porch of my house. I have the original cancellation stamp. My husband is deceased, and I am hosting campers to meet people who love to camp as much as we did. My photo is with my dog Mollie.
I hike with a group weekly and can make hiking suggestions as well as fishing suggestions. Harmony Glen is a wonderful place!Harmony Glen is suitable for either RVs and trailers or tents. For vehicles I have a relatively level gravel pad, picnic table and fire pit, 30 amp hookup, delicious well water, and a host of outdoor opportunities. I have a dump station but no direct sewage hookup. I cannot accommodate rigs over 30'.
My site is situated under Bortle Class 3 skies, an increasingly rare designation here in the eastern US. Campers lucky enough to visit when the skies are clear and the moon isn't up can expect to see the Milky Way and much more once their eyes have adjusted to the dark. Bring your telescope!
For tenters, I have a multitude of places to pitch your tent, a picnic table and fire pit, a toilet enclosure in a private area with maintenance instructions clearly posted, great water, and a host of outdoor opportunities.
Anyone may purchase firewood @ $5.00 per bundle. Wi-Fi is available about 50 yds. from the campsite with seating provided while you check your phone or computer. If you need a table for a working or schooling get-away, I can provide that in my car port. My 40 acres have some trails, woodlands, open pastures and fields, creeks to fish or wade in, and plenty of places to roam or just relax in the shade.
Pets on a leash are welcome. Kindly clean up after your pet.
If you appreciate easy access to fabulous hiking and waterfall viewing, enjoy a quiet evening outdoors by a campfire with the faint ring of a cow bell the only sound, watching lightning bugs illuminate the dark, glorious foliage in the fall, or a lush landscape that plays on all your senses, then you will love Harmony Glen. The very private single campsite is flanked by birch and white pine and borders a stream. Nantahala National Forest and pasture land are visible from the site, but houses are not.
I am an avid hiker (my late husband and I walked the 500 mile Camino Frances from St. Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago in 2014) and am familiar with many wonderful hikes in my area and whether they are moderate or strenuous. I loan campers a notebook showing all the great hikes and waterfalls and swimming and children's activities nearby with directions on how to get to them. I am relatively near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Panthertown Valley, Cashiers and Highlands, Western Carolina University, and Sylva, NC.
A room in my house was formerly the Argura post office, closed in 1953. Some old maps still show Argura on NC 281. That's Harmony Glen. My husband's book of poetry he wrote as his journal on the Camino is available from Amazon: Newton Smith, Camino Poems: Reflections on the Way, From St. Jean-Pied-de-Port to Finisterre.
I can interact with campers as desired with social distancing. I have had two shots of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine and a booster shot. I am practicing all the Covid-19 regulations ordered by our governor. I disinfect my notebook of suggested area activities and my toilet after each use. It is very safe here. I look forward to meeting you soon!
