Gorgeous in the fall! Charming secluded, private camp that sleeps one or two, down a private woodsy dirt road atop a hill outside hamlet of Roseboom, near Cherry Valley NY. 20 minutes to Cooperstown. A gently-managed tree farm, property includes forests and open meadows, even a ravine stream. Spectacular night skies, birds, wildlife. Lots of trail and hiking options. A former farm blacksmith shop with weathered siding-- a ‘smithy’-- the camp has electricity, features a raised, built-in full size bed with storage drawers underneath, a compact kitchen corner with hot / cold water, an intimate dining area. Kitchen amenities include induction hotplate, electric coffee mill and French press coffee maker, kettle, pots & pans, cooler, plates/mugs/bowls /cutlery for two. Unheated. Outside, enjoy the generous rustic deck with outdoor seating/ table, charcoal grill, outdoor shower built with locust trees from the land ( hot / cold water). Nearby spring-fed pond. For swimming bring watershoes, fishing permitted. More Trails/hiking: a nearby nature preserve and forested state land (within 10 mins.). Pets welcome. Incredibly peaceful, private, secluded. A nearby, new, beautiful outhouse. Explore the rural micro community: Nearby hamlet of Roseboom has friendly Bobs Country Store for supplies (ice, eggs, milk, meat etc); Roseboom Café for rural dining out (open Thurs and Friday); Stannard Maple Farm for maple syrup from our own trees. Resource list provided will include contacts for local vegetable gardeners -- and artists. 20 minutes from Cooperstown.The Smithy is located down a private dirt road in the hills above Roseboom. There is electricity and hot/cold potable water as well as an outdoor shower. The main house of the property is visible but will most likely be empty , pond for swimming/fishing, outdoor shower and vented outhouse. Guests are free to explore the 60 acres of property.

Perfect dog friendly respite space!

I was looking for a last minute rustic getaway from Rochester that had some outdoor space & a dry spot to sleep. One that would accommodate my girlfriend, myself & our 2 dogs. The Smithy was perfect! From flowers & a heads up note when we arrived, to making use of the fire that was graciously already set up, with ample logs for burning provided. We easily cooked dinner & breakfast on the induction burner. Coffee with the press in the morning was a good start. We used the outside cooler provided to separate our drinks from food. Walked the hill at sunset & appreciated the hot water in the outdoor shower. All in all, our short stay was renewing. A few hours in the silence of the area, stargazing is as peaceful as it gets. Thank you for offering up this wonderful space! We will be back for a longer stay for sure.

Peaceful and Restorative Retreat!

I loved my stay at The Smithy! It was peaceful, calming, and restorative, surrounded by the stunning fall foliage of Cherry Valley, NY. The cabin had everything I needed: a cozy bed that gave me deep sleep with the soothing sound of raindrops on the roof, a star-filled sky during a midnight trip to the clean outhouse, and a perfect hot cup of coffee to enjoy while watching the morning mist rise. The sunrise-facing deck was ideal for my yoga practice, and the WiFi allowed me to host video coaching calls — one of the best office setups I’ve ever had! It was so quiet that I could hear the wind from birds' wings as they flew over the pond, and so private that I even took a refreshing cold dip! I loved all the little luxuries available: induction stove top, kettle, drinking water from the tap, coffee, grinder, French press, pots and pans, cooler, dish soap, tea towels, drying rack - the sweetest camp kitchen; and of course, the outdoor shower with hot water! Thank you, Peter, for creating such a beautiful and nourishing space in nature. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have found it.

We couldn’t be happier with our stay at The Smithy. The cabin was just what we were looking for on our trip back from Acadia NP. The cabin had everything we needed including an induction plate for cooking. Outdoor shower had hot water and privy was clean. The view from the deck and up the hill at the summit were fantastic. We will definitely be back. Thanks Peter.

This was a really beautiful, restful place and was better than expected. Comfortable bed in a cute cabin with everything we needed for cooking, washing and chilling. There’s an induction burner and charcoal grill. Composting outhouse was clean and comfortable. The shower had hot water and was relaxing and private. The property is expansive with lots of walking paths in the trees and in the field which leads to some nice views of the surrounding mountains. We picked wild blackberries and enjoyed fresh tomatoes the host was kind enough to offer from their garden. Cute swimming pond we didn’t use because it rained the whole trip for us. We had the entire property to ourselves but the host was very responsive to questions and messages. Close to a few small towns with farmer’s markets and breweries. Overall really lovely place at a great price and would stay again for sure
