Holcomb Timber Farm was purchased in the 1960's by Edward Holcomb. It has been passed down through the generations, and is now owned by his grandson, Ben Holcomb. The land produces a bounty of hardwoods for the upstate New York area. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent anywhere of your choosing on our expansive 306 acre timber farm. As you drive up the main entrance, you will find a plethora of wildlife viewing opportunities. Park at the staging area and find many trails (some maintained, others abandoned.) Great for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. There is approximately 1 mile of river frontage carving through the property, which boarders the Adirondack State Park on three sides. Relax at night by the fire or take an evening dip in the creek. Enjoy your stay, as your time at Holcomb Timber Farm, and the freedom that comes with private property camping. Very limited camping sites and VERY limited access to property via car. We pulled in around 4PM on a Friday and a few employees of the farm did not know we were not only allowed to, but paid to, camp on the property. Water access was also limited, recommend bringing drinking water rather than filtering. Fire wood consists of fell trees, fire pit was not properly dug out (had to re-create fire pit for safety). We were not able to explore the property much on foot either due to the mud, lack or trails and fell trees. Overall, very rough camping site - would not pay to camp here again. The trails in the surrounding areas are beautiful, would rather backpack near the trailheads and camp at those sites.

Pretty rough experience tbh, I'd rate it a 2/10. The directions were semi-clear but its a genuine logger site, loggers were working on site and had trucks and equipment blocking the roads. I had to wait until they left for the day to drive in and try and find a spot. There was really only 1 usable spot for car camping that had any grass. Most of this property is just mud, dirt and fallen trees (due to loggers working on site) Maybe there was better fields or sites further out but nothing that you could drive to because the road conditions were so bad and completely covered in branches. No bathroom as stated on the site. Looks nothing like the pictures posted at all. Also I attempted to find the creek but it was nearly impossible to access due to how dense the forest is with fallen pine trees and branches. Basically my dog was completely covered in mud after the first night and with no option of bathing her I just ended up leaving and didn't get to stay the second night. Oh also I never heard back from the owner for a map of the property and there was no maps on site at all. If you do decide to camp - I recommend strong "Deep Woods" bug spray and tent camping by the red innkeepers lodge. Seems like the only reasonable accommodation. Also arrive after 5:00pm if you're staying during the week (that's when the loggers left for the day). Good luck

dispersed camping on very rugged and super beautiful land. it's not for everyone. Are you setting out on a multi-day hike on one of the nearby trails? phenomenal place to start or finish. are you looking for a simple plot of land to camp on for a chill weekend? may not be right for you, especially if you're driving up to your campsite and don't have an AWD vehicle, and even if you do, may be necessary to have chains handy (the mud is no joke). not for newbie campers that would like any kind of infrastructure. really gorgeous land though omg

We had a great experience camping on Ben's property. The written directions Ben provided worked once just fine. Just know there is no cell service in the area. Initially driving in the cleared lot was not what we expected, but we had never camped on a timber farm. It was quiet and remote. A lot of wildlife. We did not see anyone the four days we camped. There was an outhouse about 75 yards from our site. The Public trails were close by. The property was also great to explore. The hiking on Ben's property is rugged. If you want a primitive camping experience, then this is it.
