Hilltop Views was our first trip of the season and our first Hipcamp experience.
The camp itself is a basically a huge field up on one of the highest hills in the area. The views were beautiful. The area is a dark sky area that should have made star gazing awesome … if only we didn’t have a weekend of overcast and rain.
We weren’t sure of the camp location turn-off so we contacted our hosts. They quickly pointed out the entrance and gave us good tips for parking our camper. Having all wheel drive is a plus as we drove up and through a fairly smooth grassy field.
We set up on the ridge and had a great view of the sunset.
There were plenty of trees down for firewood. I had a hatchet but a saw would have helped.
The coolest part was when we went hiking and came across the host in one of his paddocks, with his sheep. It is lambing season and they were prancing around everywhere. We just missed one being born by 15 minutes.
It rained throughout the night and soaked the field where we were. I was worried but my truck had no problems getting out. Our host assured me we’d be OK and even offered to help if we got stuck.
We enjoyed our time at Hilltop Views and would recommend it if you were thinking of going.

Lovely, remote spot
We arrived in the pouring rain but Michelle, Mark's wife, met us and provided a warm welcome. In spite of the weather, it was easy to appreciate the farm's beautiful setting on the ridge. The rain let up later in the evening and the fireflies came out to dance, and in the morning, the curious sheep came to greet us at the fence. Lovely, remote spot.
