The Hermitage is an untouched heavily-wooded property, nestled on the banks of the Abercrombie River.
The campsites are shared with kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, deer, and of course turtles and fish in the river.
Fish or swim in the river, ride your bikes, or set up camp and then head off on an adventure walk including the Blue Mountains National Park to the south of the river.
The Abercrombie River is known for gold and gemstones, so if you're into panning, there's some good spots along the river.
There are plenty of opportunities for 4WDing and bushwalking in the local area.
Fires are allowed (fire restrictions permitting, please check local information before lighting) within the designated areas. Please only place combustible items in the fire. Bottles, cans, wipes etc do not burn and any items remaining in the fire may incur a clean up fee.
Wood can be collected from fallen wood around the property, or bring your own if you prefer.
Using nearby rocks to surround your fire is not advisable. Despite their smooth appearance, they may harbour significant moisture and can be highly explosive when heated in a fire pit or campfire. River rock is also usually pretty easy to obtain, so it seems like a quick and easy solution. However, it has a high tendency to explode, so we suggest you avoid it at all costs.
Pets are welcome for a one-off fee per animal.
Please ensure you remove all trash and evidence of your stay when you depart. If you arrive and find litter, we would personally appreciate it if you could find room for it in your rubbish collection. Please take photos of your arrival if you find something and forward it on to us so we can follow up.
We are in the early stages of our Hipcamp journey and there are plans to make for a much more enjoyable experience. All monies will be re-invested into facilities.
There is no mobile reception at this location.
There are no toilets at this location (yet). Please come prepared. A port-a-loo is ideal, or if you are happy with a bush toilet, please bring a shovel to dig a hole or to cover and conceal your deposits.

You can view a map of the property which shows different camping locations for your group. Once you make a booking you will be the only Hipcamp group to access the property and as such can camp in one of three locations, regardless of the site you book.

It is a wide-open space with direct access to the river. The access to this site is steep, but easily navigable for a 4WD.
Until such time that we can improve the road in, it's safest to limit campers to 4WD only. There will be a plan to grade the road and the suitability of access will be re-assessed then.
This is a brand-new listing, and it is short on infrastructure. In the sense, that there is none. As time goes by, a toilet will be added as well as other camp necessities. Your feedback will go along way to helping us make this space more enjoyable but ensuring we keep the "escape" feel to it.
There are two dedicated fire pit locations, and we ask that you never leave a fire unattended, as well as comply with local fire bans. The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period for Rural Fire Districts runs from 1 October to 31 March, however these dates may vary due to local conditions.
Before lighting the fire ensure that:
* it can be contained and controlled within the specified area * it does not contain toxic materials, such as rubber tyres, plastics, paint, etc; and * it must not cause an air pollution problem by producing excessive amounts of smoke.
You must also check: * whether a No Burn day has been declared * whether a Total Fire Ban is in force * the expected weather conditions.
There is low Telstra signal near the front gate at the road entrance, but no mobile reception at the river itself. Please keep this in mind in the event of emergency.
