Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Our mostly wooded property is lodged at the edge of Mark Twain National Forest. It is approximately 15 minutes to the small town of Potosi which is only 60 miles south of Saint Louis. The night skies are beautiful, weather you are gazing up through the trees from your tent or walking out to the edge of the clearing for a larger spectacle. There are only a handful of residents that live down our quiet lane but we all respect the peaceful ambiance and know each other. This is the place to feel the love from nature! We do have 2 dogs, an Aussie and a Collie Aussie mix, but they are friendly if you are friendly to them. They live up near our home which is just across the road. However within the camping area you won't see the house or anything else. It is very secluded if you want seclusion. We are only 15 minutes away from Council Bluff Lake which has a groomed beach area for swimming and fishing. We also are within 30 minutes of Hughes Mountain, Buford Mountain, Elephant Rocks and Johnson Shut Ins, to name a few! Take the kiddos or yourself to the Old Mercantile Candy Store in quaint, downtown Caledonia Missouri, then have some lunch at the restaurant there. Plenty to do...but plenty of peace if you need a break from the pace of life.
Palmer lake and many other areas are adjacent to us if you have an ATV and want to explore. Just head back out to P hwy and take a left! This site is 15-30 driving minutes away from many beautiful attractions including Hughes Mountain trail, Elephant Rocks, Council Bluffs Lake, and Johnson Shut Ins - just to name a few!
The site is tucked away about 100 feet off the county road, and about 500 feet from any type of state 2 lane highway. The county road is only available to the few residents who live down it, so there is no major traffic at all, and it is only easily accessible past our property with an ATV and permission to have one. The traffic is little to none, and you'll be sure to have peace and quiet. There's a 50 foot path through arched tree branches to the tent site, and it's about 25 feet wide by 50 feet long. We plan to make more ammenties as we go along, buy or primary plan is to make this the only site on the property to keep things serene and quiet. Our home is located on the property, also.
If you do have an ATV, there are many trails in Mark Twain National Forest which are literally right down the road within 1/8th of a mile straight off of our property.
Feel free to take your vehicle in dry weather down to the campsite, but we recommend parking on the grassy area just outside the forest entrance.
This is still a very basic site and not a glamping site, so be sure to bring environment safe, human safe bug spray and anything else you need to enjoy your stay. Please keep any type of fire within the centralized location of the site to prevent forest fires, away from trees and trees branches.
At this time we have no available restroom facilities, so please bring a self contained unit. In the near future we will have a shower and a toilet feature for your convenience. Please give us feed back as to how soon you would like that feature added!
