Forest Overlooking River

Pauline's site was beautiful and very peaceful. Pauline contacted me ahead of my stay and informed that she intended to move us to a more secluded site given that she was hosting other campers and that we had dogs. She accommodated for all her campers to ensure everyone had a peaceful and enjoyable experience on her property. Pauline gave numerous recommendations of tings to do while in the area which was super helpful. The river, prairie, fruit trees/bushes, and birds that surrounded us made for a super peaceful and enjoyable stay!

Beautiful and quiet. The river was more of a tricking stream but still fun to investigate the crawfish. I missed a day due to travel delay, but I would enjoy staying there again.

Site 1 - Forest Overlooking River

This campsite is such a dream that I struggled to leave a review: I don’t want to share! Highly recommended for campers who crave solitude, wildlife, and the simple joys of the great outdoors. Nestled in the woods away from the noise and rush of civilization, the site offers a peaceful retreat. No electricity, no running water, no bathrooms - just the raw beauty of nature. Sip cocoa by the fire while listening to the babbling river or stargaze under an unspoiled sky while surrounded by twinkling fireflies. A river runs gently alongside the campsite, ideal for cooling off or relaxing with your feet in the water. The forest is alive with birdsong and teeming with wildlife—each day brought new encounters, including resident wild turkeys and heartwarming appearances by a fawn and his mother. The site is blanketed in wildflowers, butterflies, birds, berry bushes, and a few old apple trees reach out over the meadow. The hostess is warm and friendly but respectful of your space and privacy. I highly recommend the beautiful and tasty eggs! Now, about the bugs: the mosquitoes and flies are committed to their jobs but are not bad for this area. Bring bug spray, citronella candles, and a hat. There is respectable cell service through Verizon and firewood is plentiful.

Beautiful spot along the river. A mile up the road, we enjoyed the fresh water spring to refill our water jugs. Within an hour’s drive to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and tons of waterfalls.

Fantastic site by a river. Near a road, but worth minimal traffic. Feels very private. Host was very helpful when we got ourselves lost (gps for the site is good, we screwed up). Absolutely recommend and would book again!

Pauline is easy to communicate with and responsive. It was easy to find. My friends and I were just stopping for the night on the way to the Porkies, so we did not stay long. But for the night it was peaceful and quiet and the river with some mist was lovely in the morning.

Secluded spot with a great view. In the morning we saw deer crossing the river and humming birds flying in the trees above us. At night we caught the northern lights and a meteor shower. Mosquitoes were present but at a level to be expected. Plenty of space. Having add ons of fire wood and eggs was a plus. Highly recommend this property and host.

Beautiful spot to camp and relax for a few days. You can hear the sound of the river on the river bank. Nice river to swim in to cool off. Site large enough for a tiny camper and was easy to find. Would definitely recommend. We will be back. 😁

Site 6 - Forest Overlooking River

Perfectly flat areas for tents right next to the beautiful river. Great place for rustic camping! Drinking water available just down the road at the hosts house. Great place for spotting wildlife and birds! This site is definitely added to my personal “round the lake adventure spots”!

Pauline is a hospitable Hipcamp host of this private tranquil campsite on a quiet river. I look forward to trying out their other sites. The site is a short car ride from Escanaba If you’re comforted by being close to a road this is the spot for you

This is an absolutely stunning property! The river is right next to the camp site and easily walkable. The colors this time of year are second to none. My dog had a fantastic time roaming the area. Pauline was fantastic directing me to the right area. Highly recommend!

Great spot overlooking the river

The space worked great for a family of six with one small camper and two tents, with plenty of extra room. Great view overlooking the river and quite meadows and woods surrounding the site. We took advantage of the bathroom facility in the horse barn on the last day for a small fee. We had a good relaxing time.

Double-booked and still great!

Pauline is a wonderful host. Her property is gorgeous. She is helpful and also doesn't hover. The only reason I would give 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 is because the site we booked was double-booked so we had to stay in a different spot the first night and move for the second night. We were only there for 2 nights.

Back to Basics!

We enjoyed our little escape while visiting Forest Overlooking River. Pauline was soooo accommodating. She also had so many recommendations for things to do all over the U.P. The campsites are very basic. Just come prepared! If you are looking to unplug and escape this is your place to stay!

Get back to nature uner the stars!

We had a wonderful stay at our first ever Hipcamp and our hosts Pauline and Wes were very friendly and responsive to any needs we could have possibly imagined while on our camping adventure! The site was huge and the river was just a few feet from our door so that was really beautiful. Pauline was a great communicator about what we could expect and really made us very pleased we picked Forest Overlooking River! A great location in the U.P. for all of the sights we were eager to visit. I would recommend this Hipcamp location for anyone who loves nature, room to breathe and a clean, wide and full sun campsite. We would definitely come back again! Keri C.
