The historic French built antebellum plantation home and gardens was built circa 1793-1820. The home and gardens is located on the Ouachita River. I built a culinary herb farm and nursery on the plantation grounds, in which I was named after by my family. My farm is called Louisiana Herbs LLC. Their are plenty of great sites to pitch a tent and camp in the plantation gardens or on the river bank. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent on your choice area next to the muddy Ouachita River on the grounds of an historic french antebellum home plantation in northeast Louisiana. You may fish, boat, swim, etc. Suggested early winter to late spring for camping - Louisiana can be a bit hot and humid in the warmer months. We can wine and dine you at the plantation dinner table with home cooked Louisiana cuisine (optional for an extra cost) & get you liquored up with mint juleps, homemade absinthe, mix drinks, etc. anywhere on the plantation grounds is acceptable to pitch a tent and make a campfire. we can provide wood, & possible minimal electricity to your camp area for now. there is access to water at the greenhouse area, as well as electricity. the greenhouse is a culinary herb farm and nursery, no smoking tobacco near the nursery and greenhouse area.Pitch your tent on your choice area next to the muddy Ouachita River on the grounds of an historic french antebellum home plantation in northeast Louisiana. Incredible Hipcamping experience
I had an incredible time Hipcamping on Breston's storied property in mid-April. The camping area is incredibly spacious and private, weather was perfect, and the mosquitoes were very tame during our 1-night trip. Definitely take Breston up on a home cooked meal if he offers during your stay. Hands down the best meal we had over our 1-week of traveling through Louisiana. (A note: vehicles such as sprinter vans with high clearance, be prepared to brush some of low hanging branches on your way in)

Sweet spot. You can just feel the history of the land. Breston was the best and accommodating host. I suggest everyone take him up on his offer to cook. He went up and beyond for me since I don’t eat meat and made a delicious shrimp gumbo!! He has wonderful stories about the area. I would highly recommend!

Camp on an old historic site
Quiet and beautiful historic site lined with tall trees for shade and level ground to camp. The host was accommodating and professional.

Like staying with family!
Breston was an amazing host!!! The historic plantation is absolutely gorgeous. We got the grand tour of the land, and Breston’s impressive herb farm. The love and passion Breston has for horticulture really shines through his work here. I’m a house plant nerd, and I loved learning about the ins and outs (and scientific names!) of outdoor plants! He’s got some for sale as well. We were going to pick up a patchouli plant, but I am spacey and completely forgot to ask by the time we left. Breston made us drinks with mint fresh from his garden, and offered a local beer (both delicious! He makes a mean julep!) His homemade gumbo was *chef’s kiss*. We walked back to our tent in the clearing behind the house with full bellies and good spirits. There are lots of spots to pitch your tent on property. We chose the clearing in the back, surrounded by towering trees, next to the levee. We brought bare minimum sleeping pads (just Nemo switchbacks and bags) and it was like sleeping on a cloud. The ground was soft and cushy, perfect if you’re light car-campers like we are. Just gingerly drive over a 110 year old sidewalk to get there! Southern hospitality is abundant here. We can’t thank Breston enough for such a memorable experience!

Loved it!
We LOVED our stay here!! Thanks to Hipcamp, we found Breston's property, and adjusted our road trip course to experience camping at a historic Louisiana plantation. We are so happy that we did! Breston was an amazing host, and tour guide of this property that has been in his family for generations, and the plant nursery that he has been developing there. We had the great fortune to join Breston and his lovely father for a home cooked meal... a traditional Louisiana gumbo. Our camping spot was private, and beautiful. It was a flat, grassy area that was farmed many years ago. Now surrounded in huge, beautiful trees. A river is a short walk away. We did hear trains pass several times through the night, along tracks that must be fairly nearby. They did not bother us, we were able to fall back asleep quickly. My husband even found them soothing. Staying at this plantation provided us many wonderful memories, and will stand out as a top experience on our road trip from Florida to Alaska.

Breston was a good host with lots of knowledge of his property and the surrounding activities. It was a pleasant surprise to find the public boat launch so nearby, including a great swimming hole and place to picnic. The property has a strong history and sits right along the river. There is a greenhouse and Breston sells his herbs to restaurants in the area (and to you too if you want them). The circle of magnolia trees in between the green house and the plantation home is my suggestion for where you put your tent.
